Windows 10: Why wont my surface automatically switch between audio outputs

So the issue i am having is when i plug my headphones into my surface book 2 it wont switch from the speaker output i have to manually switch it and when my headphones are connected and the output is going to the headphones when they are unplugged it wont switch back to the speakers not sure why this is

Surface Pro 3 - No HDMI Audio Output

Hi, my Surface Pro 3 HDMI audio stopped working last week, after a year or more of use. Any ideas would be appreciated. I only use this PC to stream entertainment to the TV, and sometimes for Skype. No changes made by me. Thanks!

Here's what I've tried so far:

• Switched cables.
• Switched output devices (receiver and direct to TV)
• Reset Surface Pro
• Disabled/Enabled UEFI TPM in BIOS
• Disabled/Enabled "Intel Display Audio" in device manager
• Messed around with advanced audio settings and format

I’ve solved this by buying an Active minidisplay port to HDMI. I get sound through HDMI now.

 

Audio doesn't automatically switch between headphones and laptop speaker output

Not sure when or why this happened, but my Surface Laptop running Windows 10 no longer automatically switches between audio output sources (headphones and built-in Surface Laptop speakers). If I have sound playing and no headphones plugged in, the sound
will continue to play through the Laptop after plugging in the headphones. The Laptop is recognizing the headphones, because I can right click the sound icon in the tray and select "Headphones", and the audio then switches. And vice versa.

I've already tried uninstalling and updating the audio driver (Realtek High Definition Audio), running the audio troubleshooter, and disabling the driver and re-enabling, none of which have solved the issue.
