    Why won't windows 11 let me change default ftp to my ftp program

    I use WinSCP as my default ftp handler but when I try to set it as default in Settings>Default Apps it will only allow me to use MS Edge. How can I fix this?

    Good FTP-server program

    Hi!

    Does anybody have a suggestion for a good & simple FTP/SCP/SFTP server program. I now use a program called Home FTP Server (supporting onle FTP) but wasn´t able to change the server port from 21 to another number and thats why I wanna try something else.

  3. Default programs in ftp folder

    Hi Martin,

    I managed to find a workaround with files that Chrome can not natively open, so it doesn't work for images (like .png, .jpg, .bmp), PDF files and, of course, HTML files.

    Probably Chrome can natively open more kind of file that I used to know/remember, so that's not a complete list.

    I'm sorry if this cannot help you, but I found almost no documentation about this

    (if you don't count suggestion to feedback Windows developers and hoping
    they will implement something for you
    ), but maybe it can help someone else who land here with the same problem.

    So, the thing is:

    • Open Control Panel -> Default Program;
    • First top icon Set Default Program;
    • Find Google Chrome -> Set default values for this program

      (second blue link at the bottom);
    • Protocols -> check FTP;
    • Save.
    Now if you open a file from a FTP folder (i.e. open in File Explorer), Chrome will try to download it.

    To automate this a little more, you can set a default download folder (so Chrome will not ask it every time), and when you download a new
    type of file (determined by extension), right-click on the downloaded file icon in Chrome and check "Always open this type of file".

    Of course, Chrome will try to open that file with the default program associated with it, which you can change as you wish.

  4. Why won't windows 11 let me change default ftp to my ftp program

    Default programs in ftp folder

    Hey all,

    I connected to the ftp-server of 000webhost.com to avoid the very annoying text editor on the site itself. I got it working, and I'm seeing the files, but since I opened the index.html (choosing "open in Chrome automatically") I can no longer open any html
    files in the ftp folder in for example notepad. There is no option to open in another program or to change the default program association. The only way to open that file now is to open notepad and open the file by pressing ctrl+o, but that's getting very
    annoying very fast... Is there any way to change the default program association of a file on an ftp-server, or better yet open it in another program than the default one? So far I haven't seen anyone that experienced this too, so therefore I'm asking it here.

    Could someone please help me?
