Windows 10: Why would a windows 10 update render my computer almost completely useless and I had to...

todays windows 10 update came very close to ruining my computer as I had to bring it back from its useless state. once back online I first ran a malwarebytes scan thinking maybe a virus, all I had in the notifications was to restart computer and there seems to be a problem with my audio to run a troubleshooter should fix the issue. I was all set to throw my laptop out when I decided to try what my computer tech had told me once to turn laptop upside down and hold power button for about 30 seconds. This is what I did and finally computer turned on. My laptop was crashed, frozen blank screens then the date then black screen till i did the upside down hold power button to revive it. Prior to this problem there was a message that windows taking a little longer but no worries the updated will be done shortly windows working on a fix. Then shortly my laptop became virturely useless. If i didnt perform this procedure im not sure it was coming back, this makes me really angry because how can these updates do that to my computer. It was working perfectly fine until the update almost fried my laptop.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Creative X-Fi Soundcards and Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 = Complete Disaster / Not Working

Thank you for trying to help , i did tried your suggestion but it did not work :/ , nothing seems to make it work on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709. In the meantime i have bought a new SoundBlasterX AE-5 and it did installed flawlessly , no problems whatsoever. it is up to Creative ( drivers ) and Microsoft ( bug fix ) to fix this huge bugs with Audio.

To assist you regarding this concern, I would like to ask few questions:

• What steps have you taken so far?
• What is the current update of your Windows 10?
• Did you receive any error message on your screen?

I would suggest that you boot the computer in safe mode and check if the issue still persists.

Follow the steps below to do safe mode on your computer:

• Using Installation media of Windows 10 Technical Preview boot to safe mode.
• If you don't have media, restart your computer during the boot process three times. This should bring up the
  Windows Recovery Environment.
• In the Windows Recovery Environment under Choose an option screen, select
  Troubleshoot.
• Select Advanced option, then click Start-up Settings.
• Click Restart then wait while your computer restarts.
• Under Start-up Settings screen, choose an option.
• Sign in using an account that has administrator rights.

Restart and let Windows start normally and after that perform a clean boot.

Refer to " How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting"
section of the KB article, to boot your computer in normal startup after fixing the issue. The troubleshooting steps are about Windows 8 but you can also use the same for Windows 10 tech preview.
