  1. Why would a zip folder drop its content when trying to extract all?

When trying to extract all from a zipped folder, any contents that were in the zipped file are dropped. Opening the unzipped folder after trying to extract all reveals there is nothing in it. After a restart all works as expected for a short time but the issue eventually returns.

    Extracting Zip Files

Are the step-by-step processes identical? That is, the folder extracted from and the folder extracted to belong to the same hierarchical file system structure. If they are, that suggests mildly the Cumulative Update left an electron or two out of place.

  3. Extracting Zip Files

Thanks pyramid10 for your contribution, I ensured that the steps taken and the source and destination folders were the same, in the using zip7 as suggested by BunnyJ resolved all issues for me.
I am the first to admit that I am a long long way from understanding the intricacies of computers and if truth be told I am now to old anyway to absorb much information.
    Cheers.

  4. Why would a zip folder drop its content when trying to extract all?

Can i unzip the zip files and folders without extracting the contents on the PC in Windows 10?

    Hello Dinesh,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We regret the inconvenience caused and will assist you in resolving the issue.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • What is the content of the downloaded zip file (Pictures, documents, system files or folders, other)?
    • When you say “I would have the ZIP file (40 GB), and then I would have the extracted files (40 GB, maybe more)”, have you or yet to downloaded the ZIP file?
    • If you have downloaded the ZIP file, are you able to double click on the zip file and view the contents?

Unzipping is otherwise called extracting in context to ZIP files/folders. You will be able to view the files and folders located in the zipped file but you will not be allowed to make any changes unless the content is unzipped or extracted
    on the PC.

We are not clear on the issue you are facing with to assist you further. Please write to us with the answers to the above questions and the detailed description of the issue on the same post to assist you regarding the same.

Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
