  1. Why would DumpStack.log.tmp be on my D drive instead of C

When I try to sync my D drive partition with my external hard drive FreeFileSync keeps saying that it cannot sync DumpStack.log.tmp since it is in use. But I cannot find it on the D drive even with hidden files turned on. I thought DumpStack.log.tmp was supposed to be on CI also have the same issue with filepage.sys

    :)

App download keeps defaulting to D drive instead of C drive.

    DaveM121,

If I do your first suggestion so I no longer see the D drive will that let me download and install the Nox player on my computer and will it automatically go to my C drive instead of the D drive like it has been doing?

If I do your second suggestion again will I be able to download and install Nox player on my computer?

And finally, which is the best all-a-round option?

    Thanks,

  3. Hundreds of MSI####.tmp files in C:/ Drive

    Here's what helped me:

    The ICACLS command.

Imagine my Windows ID is Joseph and I have hundreds of MSI*.tmp empty folders on c:\. I'm not going to change the security properties of each one, giving JOSEPH-AND-MARY\Joseph the ability to delete MSI1234.tmp and all the other MSI*.tmp folders.

No, I need a miracle! The ICACLS command is that miracle.

    Step 1:

icacls c:\MSI*.tmp /grant JosephWhy would DumpStack.log.tmp be on my D drive instead of C :(F,DE)

    Step 2:

Now you can delete those pesky folders in Windows Explorer or any utility that deletes empty folders.

(Note: I did run TAKEOWN c:\MSI*.tmp first, so I'm not sure if that was necessary.)

Hundreds of MSI####.tmp files in C:/ Drive

    Hi,

    Update to my previous posts.

I managed to delete all 1890 MSI####.tmp files on C:/ Drive by doing this
( Warning this caused a further complication so please read full post before doing this ):-

Right click on C:/ drive and opening Properties

    On the Security Tab

    To change permissions click edit

on Edit change from System to ( My name ) on list of Group or User names click Add

Then on Permissions for Authenticated Users click on Full Control

Click OK and then Apply and OK

This will open a Dialog Box asking if you want to change C:/ drive permissions click yes OK.

Then change will run on C:/

After this has finished select all MSI####.TMP files and select delete and select yes to Delete all files.

I finally thought that I had found the solution when all the MSI####.TMP files vanished.

Then I rebooted computer but it just stayed on Restarting Computer Screen and would not go any further.

I then tried several ways of trying to recover Windows ( Booting to Safe Mode, Startup Repair, System Restore, Windows Repair Disk and CMD with chkdsk or fixboot. etc..., did not work.

There may have been a way to fix the Restarting problem, but as I had a System Image from before when I started getting the MSI.tmp files, I finally re-imaged which gave me a clean C:/ Drive.

I know this was not a Solution to the original problem but for me it was the final solution, so I am now going to close this post but mark it as Unsolved.

Thanks for the help and suggestions from ZigZag3143

    Regards,

    Mike
