Fair warning, I’m extremely knowledge-less about computers and how they operate. I turn mine on, do what I need to do with it, and turn it off. When something goes awry, I’m completely helpless.

Like right now with my wi-fi.

For whatever reason, my wi-fi on my PC has always been spotty, randomly booting me offline and then coming back online a few moments later. I figured I was just located too far from my modem and it is what it is. Or maybe the bandwidth is overtaxed and my PC drew some kind of short straw lol. Inconvenient, but not anything serious that I couldn’t live with.

Tonight though, I’m completely offline. The Wi-fi card is stuck on “disabled.” I’ve clicked enable several times and it looks like it’s going to start up, but it doesn’t budge. I doubt it’s the WiFi access point itself, as I’m posting this from my tablet, next to my internet-less PC, and it’s online no issue.

I did a search online which brought up solutions using settings that no longer appear to exist, or taking steps that I can’t do. F.e. one page i found suggested as a first step to download the latest driver from the manufacturers website...how would I do that when I don’t have internet access on the computer I need to download the driver on?

The other thing I tried was right clicking on the wireless card itself from the Network Connections menu, Properties, then Configure. Brings up a whole mess of settings and options that I don’t understand, so I’m hesitant to touch them lest I make the issue worse.

If it matters, my computer appears to have the following card installed. “Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11 ac PCI-E NIC.”

I’m clueless as to what to do next.

Would love to get advice on what, if anything, can be done. If it’s as simple as “you need to go buy a new card,” then so be it. AMA related to this and I’ll do my best to respond as quickly as I can.

    TIA!

  3. AC1200 Wi-Fi card not connecting.

Okay, so i have a D-Link AC1200 DWA-582 (Realtek RTL8812AE) Wi-Fi card, which ive had problems with for the last year or so. Because my room is pretty far away from the router, i have a sky dual-band booster (repeater) box, which covers the black spot i have. All my other devices work fine with this, however my D-Link card only connects when it feels like it. When it does work its amazingly fast which is why i havent bothered buying another card yet. I have already updated all drivers and tried the various commands in command prompt but nothings working. Does anyone have any suggestions, i have been trying to fix this for months now but keep giving up as i cant find the problem

    Wi-Fi

I've upgraded to windows 10. I must restart the computer to see and get wireless connections. About every hour or so the internet dies. I go to settings and when first restart the Wi-Fi shows in settings. When the internet signal dies - so does the
