    Wi-fi file transfer

Using a wifi and a router i can get access to another computers files given correct credentials, but how can i do this without the router? Can i access another computers files directly (not file share) by setting up a direct wifi connection. I can do this using Bluetooth, but Bluetooth is slow. I have read that there is such a thing as wifi direct but this doesn't seem to be doing what i want. I would like to do this using only tools provided by windows 10.

Just to be clear, i don't wan't a method of individual/group file sharing. What i want to be able to do is access all of another computers files without a router (access point) using wifi as it is fast.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    :)

  3. 1.3Gbps Wi-Fi connection but slow transfers

I have a 802.11ac modem and my computer gets a solid 1.3Gbps Wi-Fi connection. However when I transfer a test file the speed shows at 110 Mbps. When I connect an Ethernet cable I have a 1.0Gbps connection and when I transfer the same test file the speed shows 985 Mbps which is faster by almost a factor of 10. *Cool

Anyone have any idea why the Wi-Fi transfer is so slow? I am starting to think the modem I have has a processor that can't keep up the speed due to the Wi-Fi encryption.

  4. Wi-fi file transfer

    Trouble Changing Wi-Fi Password

I've been following the following steps to change my Wi-Fi password for some time:

    1. Launch Control Panel.
    2. Click "Network and Internet."
    3. Click "Network and Sharing Center."
    4. Click "Wi-Fi...."
    5. Click "Wireless Properties."
    6. Click the Security tab.
    7. Check "Show characters."
    8. Enter the password in "Network security key."
Those steps have been working just fine, but today I discovered a new wrinkle. If I change the password inside the router first, "Wi-Fi..." doesn't appear in step 4. This isn't much of a problem at home, because I can just change the password in Control Panel before I change it inside the router, but it would be a problem at a public hotspot, or something of that nature. I also tested Brink's instructions in "How to Connect To a Wireless Network in Windows 10," but they don't work for me either. How can I fix this?
