Windows 10: Wifi adapter driver does not work after windows update

After windows update, the wifi does not work anymore. The network troublesshoter says that there is a problem with the driver of the adapter. Checking the adapter in the device manager says that today, upon update, the driver was deleted and a new driver installed.I am using a Surface Book with Windows 10 up to date

I suggest you to uninstall the network adapter driver from the device manager by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• Press Windows key + X keys on the keyboard and click on
  Device Manager from the options.
• Expand the Network adapters from the options.
• Right click on the wireless network card and select
  Uninstall.
• Restart the computer for automatic installation of network adapters and check if the changes are effective.

Update network adapter driver from the device manager by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• Press Windows key + X keys on the keyboard and click on
  Device Manager from the options.
• Expand the Network adapters from the options.
• Right click on the wireless network card and select Update option.
• Restart the computer and check if the changes are effective.

WiFi adapter stopped working after updating the device to Windows 10 Creator update

An outdated network adapter driver may cause the WiFi adapter not working or no WiFi available issue in Windows 10.

In this case, you need to update your network adapter driver immediately.

Note: This process needs a stable Internet connection and it is recommended to use the Internet Explorer to access the website. (You may choose to download the driver using a USB on a different computer).



Steps to download updates that include drivers from the Windows Update Catalog:

Step 1: Get the Hardware IDs.

• Type Device Manager in the Search box and press
  Enter.
• Click on Network adapters and double-click on the name of your Network Controller.
• On the Details tab, click on the drop-down arrow and select the
  Hardware Ids option. Copy the last value on the list.
  
  
  
  
• Once you have the ID number, please click on this link to access the
  Microsoft Catalog website.
• On the Microsoft Catalog website, paste the Hardware ID in the
  Search box. (Just paste the value from the word VEN up to the last number before the & sign. ex. VEN_8086&DEV_15B8.)
• Look for the latest update on the catalog and click on Download.

Step 2: Install the updates on your device.

• Type Device Manager in the Search box and press
  Enter.
• Click on Network adapters and right-click on the name of your Network Controller.

Windows 10 wifi and update & security not working


Hi All,

I have been battling an issue with Windows 10 every night for the last 2 weeks. I apologise for the long post but will try to provide as much detail as possible.

Initially I had a critical error warning which stopped me accessing the start menu and Internet explorer/edge. I fixed this by uninstalling Norton Antivirus and installing an alternative.

However I now have no wifi internet connection. All other devices using the wifi are working fine. I have checked the driver for the wifi adapter and it is up to date. The adapter also states working fine when running various tests. I have also reset my router and tried many other fixes to no avail.

I also have have a problem with the 'updates and security' option from the control panel. When I click on this it doesn't do anything.

I have spoken to Microsoft and they have suggested the driver for the adapter is incompatible. However the computer has been working fine with wifi for a good while since updating to Win 10. They suggested the solution was to revert back to Win 8 but this seems a step backwards and I don't have the product key for Win 8 so would need to purchase new.

I am thinking the only option would be a reset but I can't access that as the updates and security tab doesn't work.

I have run a system check (sfc scan now) and that found no issues. I have also ran a full Antivirus scan but again found nothing.

Any advice greatfully received.
