Windows 10: Wifi/Device Manager/Settings/Control Panel Stop Working Until reboot

Discus and support Wifi/Device Manager/Settings/Control Panel Stop Working Until reboot in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Thinking about this now, I've done multiple clean installs of windows on this PC, even with new HDDs. They've all experienced the same bug. Could it... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Support' started by Jcorella17, May 29, 2016.

I suppose that could be a possibility, but usually you'll get a BSOD from driver issues. That's why I am thinking, with your (non-windows) installed applications, you're possibly reintroducing the same problem over and over again.

  2. Alright, gave every single (non microsoft) service about 15-20 minutes each and waited for the bug to appear, which it did not... :c

The only programs I installed from my previous installs would be Camtasia, Nvidia GF Experience, MBam, & Chrome. (And a big chunk of those games.)

It's so dang random! *Mad I can be using my PC for hours and it will never happen, then it will happen out of the blue when I'm in the middle of working on pojects/chatting with friends!

I've been using chrome/skype/discord/ & playing games throughout today on my PC and I've not had a single problem, but tomorrow it will stab me right in the back when I least expect it, I can guarantee it.

Well, time to hope for more possible solutions to appear.
Thanks for the help attempt though, *Biggrin

Have you tried booting to safe mode and see if the problem still occurs? You need to isolate a driver problem as the behavior indicates to me its some sort of sata or video driver problem. I would boot into safe mode and try to recreate the problem.

If your PC wireless card does not have the latest drivers for windows 10 that could be a problem
I would disable your network adapter and see if the problem still continues.

Well, of course, it's because I waived my magic wand! *Wink
    Yeah, those wouldn't do it...
Listen, if/when it happens again, you might want to run the dm_log_collector we use here for troubleshooting BSODs. Perhaps there might be some clues in that information that would send us in the right direction, even though you are not experiencing BSODs per se. Post it here, and I'll see if I can get one of the BSOD analysts to have a look at it. Good luck!

  5. Lucky me! I did a DM log last time it happened!
When/if It happens again we can compare the similarities between them if any.

Here's DM logs from two different days when it happened

    Hi Jcorella17,

I would like you to try a few things:
    • Please remove all USB devices except for the mouse & keyboard and check your mouse & keyboard for driver updates
    • Please reinstall Malwarebytes using a fresh download, but do NOT activate using a trial or your activation creditials
    • Please remove all games from Steam and Steam
    • Please remove all apps from the Windows Store you currently do not need.
    • If the power plan is not high performance, please change it to high performance.
    • Please try to update the BIOS to the newest version
    • Please remove programs you currently do NOT need.
    • Please disable hardware acceleration in Chrome if it is enabled
      • In the right upper corner, click on
Wifi/Device Manager/Settings/Control Panel Stop Working Until reboot [IMG]
        and choose settings.
      • Scroll below and click on 'advanced settings', scroll all the way to the end of the settings.
      • In the part 'system' is the option to enable/disable hardware acceleration.
      • If this option is enabled disable it
    • Please run Ccleaner and delete the event logs (check 'Windows Error Reporting' & 'Windows Log Files'), reproduce the problem a few times & run the DM Log Collector again.

There are many error logs from Malwarebytes and Steam + games, I do not believe they are causing issue but we need to get your system a bit cleaner of all those kinds of error logs so we can find the root cause more easier *SmilePlease remove programs you currently do NOT need.

We could try driver verifier to see if that reveals anything, but I would first like to see if above suggestions make any improvements *Smile

  10. I have steam & Most of the games installed on my secondary HDD, can I just unplug that instead of uninstalling them?

    EDIT:
Could I just disable steam's automatic startup and not run any games until I get a few DM logs? (Because that's about 500 GB of files that will have to be uninstalled/re-downloaded)

I've found that my BIOS is out of date by a year... I have the update ready to install but the tutorials they offer on the website are all for UEFI, this motherboard only has Legacy.

I am not sure that would be the same thing. Let's ask @axe0.

  12. Where did you locate that BIOS? Where does it mention UEFI?

Here's what I found on MSI

Support For 760GMA-P34 (FX) | MSI USA | Motherboard
    Type: AMI BIOS
    Language: English
    Release Date: 2014-04-20
    Version: P.1
    File Size: 1.33 MB:
    Description: - Added DMI information.

  13. Wifi/Device Manager/Settings/Control Panel Stop Working Until reboot

The tutorials MSI gives for updating the bios (At the bottom of that page) are all done in UEFI, I only have legacy

Also I found my BIOS version inside my system info
Wifi/Device Manager/Settings/Control Panel Stop Working Until reboot [IMG]

It's from 2013, so it's not the most recent one (2014)

  14. Ok thanks,

I'm fairly certain that the P1 BIOS is ok for Legacy/CMS boot ... not 100% certain though.

I also read a few pages of the manual, which did not clarify anything for me. Searching the MSI forum was circular - kept coming back to the same place *Sad.

So, I would wait until another member can give you more assurance.

Let me ask this: What option is available in BIOS - can you change it from Legacy to anything else?
I'm not sure where to look, perhaps Advanced or Boot (the manual has different options than a search for AMI BIOS)
Don't change it - just look.

  15. I've just searched the BIOS and found nothing related to boot mode.
    (legacy/uefi)
