Windows 10: WIFI DEVICE

When my daughter logged in to her laptop this morning she had not been able to get a WiFi connection. We had been experiencing some difficulties recently with this WiFi connection - while the laptop seemed to have a connection to the router it would report no internet connection. The only 'fix' that seemed to work was to disconnect the WiFi, reset the router and then try again - and voila, we had her connections re-establshed.

This morning nothing worked so I tried the diagnostics tools supplied on her system.


The laptop is a Lenovo TEHGM10 - a model that does not seem to be listed under the English speaking Lenovo sites. We are living in China but find the China Lenovo web sites are in Chinese only - so no help there.


The diagnostics in her Windows 10 system System Settings - Network and Internet showed 'You are not connected to any Networks. Using the Troubleshoot button and it kept reporting the Ethernet adaptor was not working - nothing reported for the WiFi adaptor.

This test suggested to connect a Ethernet cable etc - BUT this laptop has no Ethernet connectors - 3 USBs and 1 HDMI sockets. I am going to look for a USB/Ethernet adapter to help get reconnected, but that is not a preffered option for long term use.


I went into System Settings to check for switching WiFi on or off and could find nothing for WiFi. I did a search for WiFi and got the Airplane Mode options returned as the result - this was set to 'Off'. I set this to 'on' with no change and turned this feature off again - no change - still no feature for turning WiFi itself on or off.


I went into Device Manager under Control Panel and could find nothing for a WiFi driver under Network Adapters. Same under System devices. I am almost sure it was previously a Realtek driver, but the only mention of Realtek I have found is for a part of the Audio system.


I went back into the System Settings and Networkdiagnostics and used Network Reset - no change.


Stretching my memory I recalled that the issues with 'no internet connection' outlined earlier only started after an update of approx 10 days ago. So I went into Windows Updates etc and Recovery to reset the Windows system entirely - no change.


So it seems that the wirless adapter has disappeared?? If there has been a total failure of the WiFi hardware would this account for there being no sign of the driver?

Is there anything better than this which has maximum Wifi range? For example can it play movie from 30 meter distance ? From other room ?

• Have you installed any drivers for the WiFi card?

Try updating the drivers and check if the issue persists.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to update the Wifi drivers.

• Press Windows + X key on the keyboard.
• Select the device manager.
• Right-click your Wireless/Wi-Fi devices.
• Click Update Driver Software and then follow the steps in the wizard that appears.
• Restart the machine and check if the issue persists.

wifi device is missing some time

Good day,

Refs above mail, please be inform that i have already took the following steps, to fix the same. but nothing works.

• updated device manager.
• Release and refresh from command option.

strange is that, when the issue occurs. following things observed.

• wifi driver is vanish from device manager.
• wifi laptop on/off switch light become orange means no wifi. but if i press the same button i use to see on desktop flight on and off.
  
• when i used command (prompt) i saw there was only Ethernet data came. nothing related to wifi.
• in network connection wifi option is not available. only Ethernet option.

So please look in the above matter and do the needful.
