  1. WIFI is not picking up networks despite being turned on

I have Windows 10 desktop computer with a 802.11n USB Wireless LAN card plugged into one of the front USB ports.

Even though WIFI is turned on, it never picks up anything. It just says "No WI-FI Networks Found". Airplane mode is turned off. Firewall is on. So it isn't that.

This problem began happening after I had a Ethernet connection set up. I no longer have wired internet anymore and have the cord unplugged. I do not want a wired connection any more, I want WIFI.

I have done a network reset, deleted and re-installed the LAN card, re-started my computer, and still nothing. I am very frustrated. I have tried taking out my LAN card and re-entering it into different USB ports. Nothing works.

Once in a blue moon it will start working but only for an hour or two and then shut back off and not find any networks to connect to.

Help please? Any is greatly appreciated. I feel like pulling my hair out!

    :)

Windows 10 wifi not turning on Acer Aspire laptop

In order to get the list of available wireless networks, you have to:

    1. Switch on Connect to suggested open hotspots (see the screenshot in question);
    2. Click on Wifi icon in the right corner. Now you have your networks back.

After that the parameter from Step 1 can be turned off, networks will be listed normally after restarting Wifi.

P.S. I feel rather stupid at the moment. I thought that open hotspots are passwordless hotspots and so are presumably not very safe. So of course I've turned that off during installation.
Really hard to see any logic in this case.

Laptop connects to wifi-sense TWC Wifi network, despite my settings

I have Windows 10 Home, fully updated.

My next-door neighbor rents his cable modem from Time Warner, so there's an open network called TWC Wifi (and also a Cable Wifi). I have never manually connected to this network, and it doesn't show up in my list of "Known networks"--the only 2 networks listed there are my own network and my mother-in-law's. I've turned off Wifi-sense. Yet, virtually every single time I wake my laptop from sleep, I go to load a website and get the login for Time Warner and then notice that my computer is connected to TWC Wifi or Cable Wifi. Again, these are NOT known networks, wifi-sense is turned off... why does my computer still prefer these open networks over my own home network (the router is less than 10 feet away)?

I'm at my wit's end. Is this a bug? Is there any way to set my computer to avoid these SSIDs?

Laptop connects to wifi-sense TWC Wifi network, despite my settings

Can't you just go into the wifi settings and tell it to "forget" these wanted networks?
