Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.

    Many thanks,
    Joe

    :)

not able to see or connect to wifi a on laptop. why would this be?

Issue while reconnecting to a WIFI network, which is deleted. In Lumia 72

    Hi,

I have been using Lumia 720 for almost a year. Recently i am facing issues while connecting to my home wifi.

I have deleted the my wifi from WIFI list and not able to add it or connect to it again.

All others were able to connect to My wifi from laptops and their mobiles.

And My lumia is also able to connect with other wifi networks but not my home wifi.

Some one please help me on resolving this issue.

    Thanks,

    A.Loukik

Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

Cheers for your reply. It makes sense what you are saying. I think there are certain 'blackspots' in my house where the issue becomes amplified. I am very close to the WiFi and there is only 1 thin wall so I think it could be more to do with a 'blackspot'. There are 7 people in my house so that's 7 laptops and 7 mobiles connected to the wifi so the wifi will be congested. My router puts out 2g and 5g. My laptop only supports the 2g which I assume is the 2.4Ghz. What channel do you suggest I set my wifi settings to? Opposed to the 11 it is currently set to.

oh wait, you meant the channel on the actual router. Okay, i've changed that to the least congested channel after checking with wifiinfoview. So what does the channel in my screenshot mean/do?

inSSIDer will help you see what channels are being used . Well worth the price.

I have the Engenius A/P in my profile set for Wireless-n, 40 Mhz Coexist, Channels 1 & 5. My other that I use for stuff that needs Wireless-b/g is set for Channel 5.

I like the Engenius, because I get a better signal footprint then other units that I have tried.

I built my network out, so that I can use POE for powering the Engenius ECB-350 from the UPS in my Basement, so that I still have it available during power outages.

I get at least a 150' radius with it.

With that many people in the house, it can cause issues with most consumer equipment. I would probably look at maybe doing VLAN's, so that you can have not one group touching another group for security.

You may also want to look at Load balancing if there is a issue with users not getting enough bandwidth. The wired router that I have in my profile allows for not only load balancing, but also 3G/4G Cellular fallback if the connection goes out, along with a good QOS scheme and able to lock down certain outside IP's and websites.
