WiFi Keeps Losing Connectivity to the Internet while connected to an AP since KB4338819

My internet access has gone up and down like a yo-yo since installing this update. The WiFi connection is fine, but I continuously receive site timed out errors on web pages, when the site is fine on other devices in the same location on the same wireless AP. The one time I was able to run WIndows Network Diagnostics with the access still interrupted, I got this assessment:

Details about wireless network adapter diagnosis:

For complete information about this session see the wireless connectivity information event.

    Helper Class: Native Wi-Fi MSM

    Initialize status: Success

    Information for connection being diagnosed

    Interface GUID: 276f558a-f644-4625-91e5-4034e61c073b

    Interface name: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235

    Interface type: Native Wi-Fi

    Profile: NBK2_5G

    SSID: NBK2_5G

    SSID length: 7

    Connection mode: Infra

    Security: Yes

Connect even if network is not broadcasting: No

    Result of diagnosis: Problem found

    Root cause:

This computer is continuously switching between two or more wireless routers or access points

    Detailed root cause:

Excessive roaming (between access points, within a profile or a preferred network)

    Repair option:

    Select one preferred network

Windows Help and Support can provide more information about how to prevent your computer from continuously switching between wireless routers or access points.

This makes no sense because I am literally sitting on top of a new Linksys EA7500 router on the second floor of my house, which is far away from my Asus RT-AC66U access point on the first floor of my house. Behavior is the same if I go downstairs by the Asus AP.

I have reset winsock and the IPV4 and IPV6 stacks, and run WLANReport and other diagnostics, none of which provided any actionable suggestions. I also reinstalled the latest driver for my Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 network adapter. When I looked at the KB4338819 update release info, I saw that it included the following:

    • Security updates to Internet Explorer, Windows apps, Windows graphics, Windows datacenter networking, Windows wireless networking, Windows virtualization, Windows kernel, and Windows Server.

I went back to a system restore point prior to this update, and for the last 90+ minutes my system has maintained the internet connection without fail. Please fix this issue and let me know what update I can install that will add security while maintaining my ability to connect to the internet and work. This update made my system useless!

    :)

  2. Lumia 930 wifi loses internet connection

Same problem. When I am connected to home wifi it is ok. Then, when I move to work it quickly connects with my work access point. But when I go back home, then it just loses Internet connection, and can't see any of many wifi APs around. I have to restart
Lumia every time to get back to normal. It then keeps connected until I leave, and again I have to restart when I am home....

Yes, I have most recent firmware.

Wifi connection keeps losing the internet

I have checked the box to have my home Wifi router connected automatically, but I keep losing the internet connection. Is there another setting I should use?

I am using Windows 10 on an Acer Aspire E1-571. Windows was updated a couple of days ago.

  4. WiFi Keeps Losing Connectivity to the Internet while connected to an AP since KB4338819

Keeps connecting to an open WiFi that's not on the "known" list

    I've got a weird problem I can't figure out:

New Surface Book running Windows 10. Every time it boots, it connects to "xfinitywifi" (an open WiFi access point apparently belonging to a neighbor). This AP has "limited connectivity", though, so no internet access (and I don't want to be connected to it, anyways!).

I've previously connected to my home WiFi, and this is the only network listed in my "Manage known networks" list. When I manually "disconnect" from xfinitywifi, Windows automatically connects to my home WiFi. For some reason, though, on boot up, it automatically connects to this open network (despite being set to NOT connect to open networks), and it prefers this open network over my (secured) known network.

I have disabled the "Wi-Fi Sense" "feature".

    Any ideas?
