    WiFi No Internet

Hi. I have tried everything for countless hours today with no avail. Yellow exclamation mark in the WiFi icon, No Internet, DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN when I try to use Chrome, No network access and unidentified network in the Centre. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless card, changing drivers, all sorts of DNS, all sorts of commands, rebooting everything, ethernet cable, virus scans, disabling firewalls and so on. This all happened when I updated yesterday and then uninstalled AVG, before it was working fine. Internet works like a charm on other devices, and my wireless card is listed as working properly when checked. I have no idea what else to try. Thank you.

    :)

  2. Wi-Fi is on // No connection (after Windows Update)

    On Oct 13 windows updated.

The update must've invited malware into my computer. I tried to run my antivirus after the update but it said there's no connection. Google chrome lost connection as well and then I got a pop-up saying that Windows Defender found and blocked a "Severe Trojan
threat". So I deleted it and I still don't have connection... (weirdly) the only thing that works is the Explorer app. I have internet; the Wi-Fi works just fine but, everything else doesn't connect. It's something internal that must be causing
the problem and it all started after the update.

    P.S.

It also changed my network from private to public so I had to fix that.

And YES, I did allow these programs through the Firewall so that's not the problem.

Hi, presumably you have run the troubleshooter.. rt click the tray icon, click Troubleshoot....

Download install and run Tweaking.com's cautious repair tool (free).
    Run only the Network repair

    One person recently suggested this:

5)Property:802.11n .... Check set to .... Value: Auto

Have you checked the IP4 settings for your network adapter?

I don't use AVG but seems like virus programs are getting into scanning web traffic and there might have been changes made to the adapter settings -- ensure that gateway and dns servers are set properly.

Troubleshoot gives "Problem with wireless adapter or access point", but as I said it works fine with other devices and yesterday it was working on the PC as well.

The method of dell3521 doesn't work, I don't even have 802.11n in the list, but changing something similar didn't solve anything.

The no wifi available solution isn't what I'm looking for, I can see the router and connect to it, but there is simply no internet.

Network repair didn't help either, still "No Internet".

Starting to lose all hope here...

Go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet - Network Connections.

Right click on the adapter you are trying to use and select properties

Select Internet Protocol Version 4 and click properties

Check to see if both options to the option to obtain automatically.

That would have been too easy I guess.

Open a shell window and type ipconfig then copy and paste the result here.

    It is.

Ok. So your computer is getting assigned a strange IP and no gateway. That is your problem.

When I asked you to check to make sure both settings were on automatic for Internet Protocol -- you checked your wireless adapter not the Ethernet one right?

    Can you check again.

Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections then right click on the wireless adapter and check the properties for IPV 4 to ensure both are set to automatic.

Yeah I obviously checked for the wireless connection. They are both on Auto.

    Thanks.

Ok lets try assigning one manually.

Go back to the same setting but this time pick use the following for both.

IP address enter an ip address for your subnet -- if you don't know what that is check ipconfig for a computer that is working and change the last number only.

You can try entering 192.168.1.1 into a browser window -- that is the most common address for a router. If not try 192.168.2.1 followed by 10.1.1.1 until one of those works.

So set IP address to a address in the range lets assume 192.168.1.x is correct so pick 192.168.1.99
    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1 (or whatever your router IP is)

DNS server use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    Press Ok then close.

It's not a "strange IP", it's the standard auto-config IP range when the adapter is set to auto-configure but there is no DHCP available. See Where did IP 169.254.51.183 come from? - TechRepublic

What brand is the adapter? Is it USB or built-in? Which drivers are you using?
