Windows 10: wifi no longer works device "not present" win 10 what changed?

hello,

for first time since 31 dec 2020 I turned on my win10 workstation but no wifi network. However, the wifi does work and this laptop connects fine.

The main workstation has an ASUS nc10 pcie wifi card and has worked okay for 3 years. Why would it changed as it worked fine on new year's eve?


Not sure how to fix this. I wonder, did anything change automatically and out of my control.?

The windows update just comments on a defender definition as the last thing updated on 31st Dec.[and daily updates to those on prior dates]


For those wishing to advise - I repeat - the system worked fine 4 days ago and I have done nothing but shutdown on new years eve, then turn it on today.

Wifi network not appearing after recent Win 10 monthly patch

Someone else on another forum suggested I switch the wifi freq on my Android Nexus 5x. So I switched it from 5ghz to 2.4 and it worked! Problem solved. Now my Nexus hotspot is again appearing in my Win 10 list of available wifi networks. So problem was with Android and not Windows.

 

Wireless device suddenly not present - no wifi or bluetooth but Stylus is working!! on Surface pro 3

my Surface pro 3 was working fine until 08/02/19 - shut it down completely then on 09/02/19 powered up and rebooted - no wifi connection available also Bluetooth not working

on further investigation...

• no wireless adaptors present in "control panel >network and internet >Network connections
  • only ethernet adaptor (which works)
• flight mode is greyed out and cannot be enabled
• device manager shows no issues
  • I cannot see any network device with wireless in its name
  • I have rescanned for hardware !
• I have reset windows ( without deleting personal files )
• I have checked for windows updates
• re-booted many times in the hope the wireless device will suddenly be recognised as being present by the surface

The really strange thing about this is that the surface stylus is still working which is a Bluetooth device as I understand !

so it seems that the hardware wireless device in the Surface is actually working but not being recognised by some of the software

any ideas ?

 

New computer setup wifi not working

I am trying to set up a new Lenovo IdeaCentre A540 Series all-in-one running Windows 10 Home. When it was walking through the initial setup, it detected several nearby WiFi networks. I had a problem getting the mouse connected and was not able to set the WiFi network. It was turned off and back on and then, upon getting back to that step, did not detect any WiFi. In Network and Internet settings it has no WiFi adapter listed and no WiFi options anywhere. I did make sure network discovery was turned on and I checked in Device Manager that the network adapter was enabled, but it doesn’t show up anywhere but in Device Manager.

Under Network Properties, it does list WiFi and says “Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter”, status not present and connectivity disconnected. Under Device Manager I don’t see that adapter, it shows “Realtek PCle GbE Family Controller”, which appears to be the Ethernet adapter maybe? and a variety of WAN Miniports.

I’ve pretty much maxed out my knowledge here and I can’t find this exact issue when I search, so any advice would be much appreciated. Trying to help my stepdad set up to work from home during the pandemic...

Welp, now it's working. I realized I could show hidden devices in Device Manager, so I found the wireless adapter there. It was showing as not connected, so I shut down and dragged everything to another room and connected an ethernet cable, whereupon the wireless adapter started working perfectly. Maybe it was turning it off and back on the third time that worked, who knows...
