  1. WiFi Not Working on Windows 10 - Need a Permanent Fix

    Hi,

I am running Windows 10 and I occasionally face issues with my Wi-Fi Driver. Yesterday, the Wifi was working just fine and I lifted my laptop and moved it to another place and suddenly I saw my laptop restarting with no reason. After it restarted automatically there was no update which needed restart the wifi was gone. This was not the first time I faced this issue. I faced this issue last year as well.

So what exactly happens to Wi-Fi on my laptop?

    1. The Network Icon on Taskbar shows a globe with a cross sign. And after clicking that only one option appears of "Airplane Mode". The wifi option is not there.
    2. I go to device manager and under network adapters, the Wifi Device is also not there. It should show Qualcomm Atheros 956x Wireless Adapter something like this I don't exactly remember the model number.
    3. I searched for the WiFi device and then went to the Qualcomm website to download the latest device driver. Installed it manually using add legacy hardware. Still no change.
    4. I try installing the Wi-Fi driver from Asus's website, but on the installation page it shows "Cannot uninstall the previous driver as the device may be unplugged or may not be inserted". Even If I try to repair the same, same error. The device may be unplugged or not inserted.

LAN is working so I need to connect my laptop using LAN. Scan Hardware changes do nothing. Adding Legacy Device does nothing. Manually installing the driver does nothing. Installing the Wifi driver does nothing. Windows update does nothing. The update driver option does nothing because there is no wifi device. I have faced this same problem around 10 times in the past 1 year and it automatically resolves. I thought it might be an update issue but every time it got fixed, it was without updating the windows or me doing anything. It seems that the windows on its own disable the device one fine day and after someday it enables the device.

Please provide a permanent fix. I am in a Media Industry and I cannot bang my head with the laptop if this problem occurs again and again.

I am attaching Screenshots for reference. Also, a heads-up, I am on Windows 10 Home Insider Preview Build 20161.rs_prerelease.200627-1754. I assume that this is not a preview problem because even in this preview a few days back the wifi had the same problem and got resolved automatically. And, the unknown device option in Device Manager also does nothing. Disabled, Enabled, update nothing working for the Unknown device option.

qubit finally upgrades to Windows 10 permanently!

Oh yeah, there's always some odd combination of hardware that won't work with the latest Windows and it's always frustrating when this happens. With any luck these problems will be ironed out in time.

Long shot, but you could try this: use another PCI-E slot for the graphics card. If it works properly there, that might tell you something about the nature of the problem.

Also, if you start a thread on these specific problems, you'll probably find that you get quite a lot of suggestions on how to fix it, some of which might work. Worth a go anyway. *Smile WiFi Not Working on Windows 10 - Need a Permanent Fix :)

    Windows 10 Wifi Won't work

I tried all these suggestions & my wifi still won't turn on.

My wifi works on an older computer that doesn't have Windows 10. So it's a problem with the system,

I need help. Next step is buying a new computer.
