WiFiInfoView possibly showing inaccurate WiFi connection data

I'm having a hard time with my WiFi connection in this underdeveloped state of Florida.

I picked a room as close as possible to the antenna, but my WiFi kept connecting to different access points, and the signal quality/strength would drop. I need this to be reliable since it's not for leisure but for work.

So I used WiFiInfoView to pick a better access point. But I am not convinced that the information provided by WiFiInfoView is accurate. It's showing the quality of my signal close to 100almost all the time see picture 1, which is very fishy, given that frequently my browser chokes to load pages and programs I use to WFH freeze at times.

Also, around the same time that I notice slowness I check the speed with netsh wlan show interface see picture 2 and many times the values shown differ from WifiInfoView. So it seems to me that WiFiInfoView is unreliable.

What is the second best program out there to check WiFi connection speed real time?

Any ideas on what I can try to make my WFH less stressful given these horrible Florida services?

    I appreciate any insights.

Is it possible to set up a new manual wifi connection from the command line?

I'm trying to work out a solution to set up ad-hock wifi connections in Windows 8.1 based on the suggestions in a post on Micsrosoft's answers site. Is there any way to do the first few steps:

    • go to "Network and Sharing Center"
    • click "Set up a new connection or network"
    • double click "Manually connect to a wireless network"
    • enter the SSID of the ad-hoc network (as shown by "netsh wlan show networks") into the "Network name" field
    • configure security settings accordingly
    • uncheck "Start this connection automatically" (important)

    ...without using the windows dialogs?

wifi connected but no data flows

Got an 830 and on Rogers cellular in Canada.

Just back from a trip across Russia.

Found wifi connected in some hotels but did not in others (very frustrating)

Got back to Europe where we have a temporary home and wifi service and still no connection at home.

Rebooted + have now have connection.....but no data is flowing

Router offers both 2.4G and 5G streams. Tried both. Tried rebooting a couple of times. Switched off the battery saver etc.

Phone (news, weather, gmail etc) all not updated for 3 days yet wifi shows connected (and connects automatically now).

Don't want to switch on the mobile data.

Any suggestions on how to get the wifi data flowing.
