  2. programs running on 32 bit after upgrading Window 10

    Hello Nitin,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

With the issue description, I understand that some of the programs are running on 32 bit on your
Windows 10 64 bit operating system. I will certainly help you in getting this fixed.

I would like to tell you that most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows.
However, Device drivers designed for the 32-bit version of Windows don't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows.

Through a process called Windows on Windows, Microsoft implements a compatibility layer between the two bit architectures. Every 64-bit version of Windows includes an emulator called WoW64 (Windows
32-bit on Windows 64-bit) which is responsible for translating the differences between 32-bit and 64-bit applications. It’s just an emulator that passes 32-bit applications through to the OS.

32-bit programs are usually installed to the
C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder on 64-bit versions of Windows, while 64-bit programs tend are usually installed to the <C:\Program Files\> folder.

If you compare your two different Program Files folders, you’ll find that most of your programs are probably installed to the
    C:\Program Files (x86) folder. They’re likely 32-bit programs.

Hope this information is helpful. Please write back to us if you need any further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.

  3. Fall Creator Win 10 update fails on 3 partitions with error 0x000008AD

windows 64bit runs every 32 bit program all the way back to XP. That is why there is 2 Program folders on 64 bit.

    C:\Program Files

    C:\Program Files (x86)

Most every program on a 64 bit system is 32 bit program

The Default User profile folder under Users is created when Windows is installed. If your User Profile will not load, the Default User Profile will load so at least you can boot into Windows. From there you can troubleshoot your corrupted User Profile. This folder does not need to be backed up or saved on another computer as it is specific to the computer it was created on.
the same for the Hidden Built In Administrator profile, again, this is specific to the computer it was created on and would not work on another computer.

The reference to 32-bit or 64-bit is related to which version of Windows 10 gets installed. The 32-bit version will run on 64-bit hardware but the 64-bit version will not run on 32-bit hardware.

The Folder you asked about is created during installation of Windows. The data folders for the logged-on User are under their name, those contain the files one wants to save or back up to other media. There will be a few files that can't be copied as they will be in use by Windows, usually are the boot files needed to get things started.

  7. Maybe I wasn't being clear.

I am trying to replace a corrupt (I think) c:\users\default folder on one machine with a good one (For sure) from another one (Not the same bit though, one 32-bit one 64-bit) so you are saying the Default folder is specific to a machine so I can't replace it with another c:\users\default folder, that will not work?

    Will a 32-bit Windows C:\Users\Default folder work under 64-bit?

The 32-bit or 64-bit may not be a problem, could only copy a good one to paste in place of the bad one to see if it would work. I think it's more about the Folder being created when Windows is installed and probably would need to be from the same Version and Build.
