  1. Will doing a full reset of windows clean my system the same as formatting my hard drive?

I have a bug in the drivers on my PC. I see some discussion that resetting my PC using the windows reset function will wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows 10. But will it he a full reset function when I select erase everything option and completely erase the hard drive or will it only overlay a fresh copy of windows on the existing copy? I need a clean restart as if it was a new PC. Or should I use the bootable disk option and go to the Microsoft store for a copy of windows?

    :)

  2. how do i format my hard drive?

    Hi James,

There are different situations of fomatting a hard drive:

    1. Format an external hard drive.

Usually there is only one partition on an external hard drive. To format it, you can open
This PC, right click on the external hard drive, and select
    Format...
    .

    2. Format an internal hard drive.

Usually there is more than one partition on an internal hard drive.

    - To format non-system partitions, the steps are the same as you do in situation 1.

    - To format the system partition, you may
    reinstall Windows 10
    directly.

Formatting a dual boot system with windows 10 and ubuntu

    Hi,

In Windows 10, you can easily format a hard drive or a partition by accessing Computer Management. For us to assist you, we suggest that you follow the steps listed below:

    • Press the Start button.
    • Type Computer Management.
    • On the left side, click on Disk Management under Storage.
    • Locate the drive that you want to format.
    • Once located, right-click on the drive and choose Format.

If the hard drive has not been formatted with the steps that we have provided above, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer of your hard drive. Some hard drive requires a software that you'll need to use just to format it.

Let us know how it goes and if you need further assistance, feel free to post back.

  4. Will doing a full reset of windows clean my system the same as formatting my hard drive?

    Cleaned hard drive

Hello my name is Bradford and I'm an Independent Advisor for the Microsoft Community and I will try to answer your question about the security of your online accounts that were once used with that hard drive.

By "clean" I assume you mean "format" or the actual "clean" command in diskpart- a feature built into Windows.

If that is the case then yes, the information needed to access your online accounts has been removed and it is safe to sell the drive.

If, however, this is not what you did, below please refer to the tutorial on how to run the "clean" command.

    1. Press "Windows Key + R" to open the run dialogue

    2. Type cmd then press
Ctrl+Shift+Enter to run the command as an administrator

    3. Then type diskpart and press enter

    4. Then type list disk and press enter

    5. Then a list of the hard drives connected will be displayed, type the number of the disk you want to clean with the "select disk" before it, for example
    select disk 1

BEFORE you proceed to the next step please be sure that you selected the correct disk as the next step is NOT recoverable.

    6. Then type clean and press enter.

If you have any other questions please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them.
