Hello, so i wanted to ask.

Will having windows on my main drive, and linux or other operating systems on a external hdd cause any conflicts?

My family is worried about it because i had never done a thing like that before, i installed linux on my other external hard drive as mentioned, and i understand that i would still have to manually select the external hard drive using my computers built in "One-time boot manager".

I just wanted to know if this could casue any issues with windows or the other os.

As far as i have seen nothing is wrong, but issues could pop-up eventually.

    :)

  2. Error: "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system"

    Hi Stephen,

I realize the inconvenience you are facing in accessing the operating system. Now that you have me with you let me take care of this.

Do let us know if you are able to see Windows 7/ Windows 10 operating system while rebooting the device?

As you are unable to boot the operating system, this issue might have occurred when the boot files are missing or corrupted.

I suggest you re-built the boot rec by following the below commands and check if it helps.
You will have to use Windows 10/7 installation media to follow the steps to boot into Recovery Environment and try to rebuild BCD.

Step 1: I suggest you to create an installation media for
operating system using the media creation tool

If system boots to Windows 10:
Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool

If system boots to Windows 7: Download Windows 7 Disc Images (ISO Files)

Step 2: After preparing the installation media, insert it hard reboot the device and follow the below:

    • Boot into Windows Recovery Environment using the Windows 10/7 installation media.
    • Click on Repair your computer.
    • Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options.
    • Select Command Prompt. Type the following commands into the prompt and press Enter key after each command.
    • bootrec /fixmbr

    • bootrec /fixboot

    • bootrec /scanos

    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
    5. Restart the computer.

NOTE: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting
from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of booting the operating system for further assistance.

    Thank you.

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?

USB Mass Storage Device (Flash Drive) and three operating systems

    Multiboot system: Win7 w/SP1, Win10 Build 14393.10 (upgraded 8.1), and Win10 Insider Preview Build 14393.10; all 64bit.

One major problem is that in Win10 Build 14393.10 (upgraded 8.1) no flash drive is recognized. This happens if I plug-in the device and boot or boot then plug-in the device. Booting with the device plugged-in: Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    > USB Mass Storage Device has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point included > Properties\General: This device cannot start. (Code 10) - STATUS_DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED. The Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media icon in the taskbar when right-clicked does
not list the flash drive. If I remove the drive I do hear the 'disconnected device' sound and the item disappears from Device Manager. Plugging the drive back in reverses the process.

I can move this drive to another USB port - same problem. I can try different flash drive - same problem. I can reboot to either of the other operating systems and the drive is recognized using either method.

Uninstalling the device from Device Manager and rebooting has no effect - problem still exists.

If I check Properties the Driver Provider: Microsoft; Version: 10.0.14393.0; Date 21 Jun 06

Booting to Win7 or Insider Preview - the flash drive appears as expected; as do other flash drive plugged into various other USB ports.

I have reviewed many of the proposed 'fixes' posted here - none have worked; I'm open to other suggestions.
