  1. Will my existing files be affected if my OneDrive storage becomes full?

    Hi! I have recently downloaded a large file. The download proceeded, but a message appeared saying that I used 5.0 GB out of 5.0 GB of my storage. Were my old files affected by reaching the limit? I just don't want my old files to be deleted suddenly just because I reached the 5.0 GB limit momentarily.I immediately moved my downloaded large file elsewhere.P.S. I hope that OneDrive has some sort of buffer storage so that any "small" excess beyond the storage limit can still be accommodated.

    :)

    Cloud storage (aka Onedrive will suck so need to find something else)

    So, I will have to move away from Onedrive, which is sad because it's frankly the best free cloud storage I know of. But as someone said: "Microsoft realized they accidentaly made a great service." and they'll change it so that starting soon this will happen (the things that affect me anyway):
    • 100 GB and 200 GB paid plans are going away as an option for new users and will be replaced with a 50 GB plan for $1.99 per month in early 2016.
    • Free OneDrive storage will decrease from 15 GB to 5 GB for all users, current and new. The 15 GB camera roll storage bonus will also be discontinued. These changes will start rolling out in early 2016.
    This is so much crap. I use the free version and yeah $1.99/month I probably could afford, but it still SUCKS. Seriously, I usually don't get the MS hate, but this is a poop-poop move.

    So I need something new.

    Dropbox is out. Too tiny. Google Drive might be an alternative, but I'd rather not, for ... reasons I can't remember right now.

    What I need:
    • something like 15GB storage or so.
    • Automatic photo uploading from my phone (Android)
    • Preferably an actual app for Android (yes I know you can setup ES File Explorer and the like but that's usually pretty cumbersome)
    The simplest solution I'm actually leaning towards is just to give up and get a 100GB plan now (current 100/200GB plans will not be affected, in the future they won't be avaliable to new customers), but that's the easy way out. *Frown Will my existing files be affected if my OneDrive storage becomes full? :(

  3. Can't use OneDrive because it says "You're over your storage limit". I am not over my storage limit.

    Hello, freddiebeaumont.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    This appears to be a known issue currently affecting OneDrive Storage. Users from different regions have reported the same issue beginning approximately June 2024. We've summarized the main points of our current situation in this issue, you can review them at your convenience:

    1-> Impact Summary:

    Many customers worldwide have reported that their OneDrive Storage spaces have become exceeded in OneDrive for Web, even they have cleaned and deleted those unnecessary files. The reported issues include:

    • Users cannot create OneNote notebooks on the online, despite having enough capacity.
    • Synchronization Issues – OneDrive client (Windows/Mac/IOS/Android) are not syncing properly with OneDrive. Attempts to add these folders to "My Files" result in storage fulls.
    • Access and Sync Problems - Users are unable to sync shared folders with their local devices, resulting in workflow disruptions and inability to access files offline.

    2-> Latest Update:

    This issue may be due to an internal error affecting data synchronization and handling within the OneDrive service. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is actively working on a resolution.

    • Efforts are underway to restore proper access to affected OneDrive storage spaces. Initial steps include investigating the issue's root cause and implementing fixes to ensure shared folders appear correctly as file folders in File Explorer.
    • A comprehensive analysis is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the issue. Preliminary findings suggest a possible misconfiguration or recent update affecting shared folder handling and synchronization processes.

    3- > Current Status:

    • Some users have reported temporary workarounds, such as creating these files locally, or try to switch another OneDrive account for now.
    • Microsoft internal engineers are closely monitoring the service and implementing fixes to ensure stability and proper synchronization of OneDrive storage spaces.

    We fully understand the inconvenience and disruption caused by this issue. Our team is actively addressing it and working hard to fix it as soon as possible. By June 11, 2024, our community support has posted the bug reports on the feedback platform for internal use. We are committed to resolving this swiftly.

    Please let us know if you have any questions or need more help.

  4. Will my existing files be affected if my OneDrive storage becomes full?

    Windows 10 - OneDrive

    Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

    If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.
