Windows 10: Will my Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard run Win 10? If so, what version?

Hi- I see the Win 10 compatibility application is no longer available. I tried upgrading my computer to Win 10 back during the free period and it didn't work. I assumed it was because my components were too old. I see here on the forums though that some older MoBo's can still run older versions of Win 10 and I was wondering how I might determine if mine can, and how I would go about doing the upgrade (I'm not very computer savvy). I don't want to purchase Win 10 to find out that my computer simply can't run it.


My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2. My CPU is an i5-760, in case that matters.

Windows 10 November Update, issue is Windows 10/GA-55M-UD2 motherboard/nvidia driver

I5 processor on a Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard. Windows upgrade found it compatible with Windows 10. Windows 10 ran fine, including the November update, until an install of an nvidia driver for my GeForce 9500 card froze my system.
It freezes on a black screen on boot or anytime the driver is installed. NVidia tech support has not been overly helpful. The last message was that they did not see Windows 10 being supported on the GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard. That may be but Windows 10 did
run fine until the NVidia driver update. I've tried older versions of the driver and encounter the same issue. At this time I do not know if the real issue is the NVidia driver, Windows 10, or the mother board. Given the amount of issues others have had
with NVidia drivers I suspect that the issue is some sort of a disconnect between NVidia drivers and Windows 10 but I have no way to prove this. Since UBUNTU runs OK, with the display at the max resolution, I assume the GeForce graphics card is OK. I am
left with 2 undesirable choices, run Windows 10 with the default Microsoft basic driver (which works but the screen resolution is far from optimal), or run UBUNTU (which runs fine with the max screen resolution; but of course does not support OFFICE which
I use extensively so my work has to be performed on a laptop running Windows 10).

 

Gigabyte P55M-UD2 Pictured

Gigabyte's recently detailed lineup of socket LGA-1156 processors includes the now-pictured P55M-UD2 entry-level motherboard based on the micro-ATX form factor. This model confirms that there will be motherboards based on the Intel P55 chipset, that are priced under US $100. Utilizing the Ultra Durable 3 construction, Gigabyte ensures low-price doesn't make way for low-quality. The socket LGA-1156 processor is powered by a 6+1 phase VRM. It is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots for dual-channel memory. Expansion slots include one PCI-E 2.0 x16, one PCI-E x16 (electrical x4), and two PCI slots along the way.

Unlike its UD4 cousin, this board doesn't split the PCI-E x16 slot to two electrical x8 slots, and it doesn't support NVIDIA SLI technology either. ATI CrossFireX isn't left out. Of the six SATA 3 Gb/s ports the P55 PCH provides, five are internal, and one assigned as eSATA. An additional Gigabyte G-SATA controller provides two internal SATA 3 Gb/s ports and an IDE connector for two devices. Connectivity options include 10 external and four internal USB 2.0 ports, two Firewire 400 ports, eSATA, PS/2 mouse-keyboard combo connector, and 8-channel audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF output connectors. The P55M-UD2 has begun getting listings on etailers for US $99.45.

Portable hard drive USB3.0 fails to connect with GA-P55M-UD2(1.0) or windows 10 drivers

A few weeks ago I installed the motherboard GA-P55M-UD2(1.0) into my desktop. Since then I experience trouble using storage devices. I have two storage devices one HDD(Seagate) and one SSD(Samsung) both USB3.0. When I connect them to the USB2.0 HUBs of
the motherboard they are recognized as devices but not as storage devices, they will not appear in disk manager as well. So I figured it would be the drivers, I searched for drivers and did a clean install. This did not work.

I looked on the internet and found a user with the exact same problems as I have, he even got the same error codes. "Probleem met externe harde schijf onder Windows 10"

I was wondering if this is a common problem and that there is a solution to it. I tried to download drivers from the Gigabyte website, but none were related to USB controllers or were supported by windows 10 64bit. Please let me know if you know what is
going wrong here, I am not sure where to look anymore.
