Will My Z97 GAMING 5 Mobo Support a GTX 1080?

I can see on the MSI support page that my Z97 GAMING 5 supports a GTX Titan but I don't see support for the GTX 1080. Isn't the TITAN more powerful than the 1080? If that's the case then lack of support for the 1080 wouldn't make sense. I would hate to purchase a card that my mobo won't even support.

  2. Windows 10 BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER fixes?

I built my gaming computer with these components:

MoBo: MSI Z97 GAMING 5 LGA 1150 ATX

    GPU: MSI GTX 970

    HDD: Sea gate 1tb

    CPU: Intel i7-4790k

I installed the windows 8 OS, with a few problems when initially setting up, but it worked fine for gaming. When i saw the optional windows 10 upgrade for free, i couldn't resist clicking install. As soon as i restarted windows 10 for the first time, it
crashed with a BAD_POOL_HEADER error message

I tried so many solutions on other articles related to the problem but none of them worked. Help?

Won't recognize USB unless booted plugged in

I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU. Everything works fine and the machine is able to POST and run, but for some reason, the computer won't recognize anything plugged into the USB ports AFTER starting up. The only way to get my mouse and keyboard
and any other USB devices to work is to plug them in before starting up the computer. It may be a driver issue, but I'm not too sure what to do.

    Specs:

    CPU: I7 4790k

    RAM: 8 GB G Skill Ripjaws x

    GPU: EVGA Nvidia gtx 660ti

    MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming 5

They probably didn't update the page, and yes your motherboard is compatible with the GTX 1000 series.

To add to what "RubberDucky" posted:

The Z97 GAMING 5 has PCI-E X16 Gen 3 slots. That's as compatible as you can get with a 1080.

    NVidia's nomenclature can be confusing.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ocessing_units

The original Titan was a 700 series card, from early 2013. It was rated at 250W. The Titan Z was a dual GPU card (essentially a one-slot SLI device.) There were Titan X cards in both the 900 (Maxwell) and 10 (Pascal) series. The series 10 Titan X is rated at 250W. The 1080, 180W.

The main concern would be whether your PSU can support the card. It's much more than adequate. You could use two of them in SLI, no problem.

  6. GTX 1080 is the new king atm, but not until NVIDIA release GTX 1080TI in the future and that will be new the king.

By the way. Thanks for the responses you guys. I guess I'll be picking up the 1080 after all.

The Pascal version of the Titan X is the fastest, most powerful card. It's also the most expensive at $1200. The 1080 is a good card as well and considerably cheaper no matter which version you get. The 1080 TI is supposed to be released Jan 5th at CES.

Nah. The Pascal Titan X is the monarch. If the 1080ti is released, it'd be more sanely priced, and give the same performance. (I doubt that the extra VRAM on the Titan X is of much use in a single-card setup. Not enough GPU power to drive the resolution that could make use of all that RAM.)

  12. If I have $800+ for a GPU upgrade, I would get the 1080 or 1080TI over Titan because the name " Titan" is already overrated in my opinion. Titan is more worth for professional animation/graphics designer such as movie maker, game designer, etc.....

Unless you're a rich kid, than why not? But if you're someone looking for worth every $$$ than GTX 1080 or 1080TI definitely worth it for gaming.

No, the Titan is King not the 1080.

No matter what you think of it or whether you would buy it, the Titan X Pascal is still a faster, more powerful card. The Titan is king right now, not the 1080.

  14. GTX Titan X Pascal is basically an enthusiast-grade GPU.
