Windows 10: will not wake again

Discus and support will not wake again in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; I've used at least 4 different motherboards from 3 different manufacturers and I've never been able to wake my PC using a USB keyboard/mouse running... If I'm understanding you correctly . . .

Umm, are you talking about a wired or wireless keyboard/mouse? I haven't used a wired keyboard/mouse in years, but this Logitech keyboard/mouse have a USB dongle.

Although I turn off my computer at night, I leave it on all day. It goes to sleep when I'm not on it in awhile. All I have to do is to wiggle the mouse or tap the spacebar to wake the computer when I want to use it. In fact, I had to set my Power options up to not require a password when waking it up from sleep.

  2. I assume it works for most people, as the Internet isn't clogged up with complaints. *Smile

My ports obviously power down, as there are no lights on the keyboard or mouse.

I could tell that the PS/2 mouse was still powered (when the PC was sleeping) as I could see the LED running.

It's frustrating, as I can normally fix various problems (even major ones) myself or by using info from the Internet, but I cannot fix this minor issue. *Mad

I have an optical wired mouse (see System Specs). *Smile

I've just spent 5 days reconfiguring my system:
    • Replaced a faulty HDD
    • Battled with GPT (stalemate)
    • Clean W7 install
    • Clean LM17.1 install
    • Program reinstalls
    • Transferring TBs of data to and fro
I took the opportunity to play around with the USB settings in the BIOS and W7.

The only thing I was able to "achieve" was rendering my operating systems unbootable. *Biggrin

Check your jumper position on the MB.

    Thanks labeeman. *Smile

I was wondering if I was missing a jumper on the motherboard.

Pity I didn't see your post earlier.
I've just finished reorganising my hardware (I could've checked then).

Now it can wait for my enthusiasm to return (that will take ~6 months). *Biggrin

In and office network environment it seems like a good idea to leave it on 24/7. But on the other hand if it's not necessary on a personal computer, leaving it on all night as far as malware is concerned, wouldn't that be a little like leaving the doors to your home unlocked during the night?

  6. O/K
Yesterday two updates were installed: KB3020111 and KB3025096 :
With no adjustment to my Bios or Sysem settings. I awoke this morning and with a wiggle of the mouse my machine woke up as normal. I will try again tonight.

    Regards Topper.

No. Malware doesn't hide around the corner and then jump into your PC when your eyes are averted. It would however be like leaving your lights, AC, etc on while you went on holiday and wasting energy for no reason (as that is exactly what you would be doing).

Worms can't "crawl" into a machine that isn't powered.
They may be able to get into machines that are sleeping and have Wake-on-LAN set.
