  1. will only boot windows with AHCI

I have selected RAID in the BIOS, and set up the RAID settings OS on an SSD, and using 2x 8TB drives for the RAID but will only boot windows with AHCI chosen in the BIOS. What do I need to do?

SATA optical drive becomes useless in AHCI mode?

I suggest after enabling AHCI, booting with the main drive ONLY, letting windows install the drives, reboot, plug in the other drives.

Windows Will Not Boot After Trying To Change To AHCI Mode

I have looked at the How to Enable AHCI in Windows 8 After Installation link you provided.

[By the way, after you paste in a web address press the spacebar and it will turn into a hyperlink so people can get to where you are pointing -

All their methods were about steps to take in Windows 8 Registry before changing the BIOS. They were not an alternative to the BIOS. If you have no such setting in your BIOS then you cannot use AHCI. All BIOSes differ but here is a sample AHCI entry to
help you check for anything similar -

will only boot windows with AHCI 8a967d2a-8dc3-4201-85ac-ceefe8dfb974.jpg

    • I think you should leave any fiddling with AHCI now and focus on getting the system in working condition first though.
    • If SFC & DISM did not help you resolve this problem then I suggest that you restore your system image again.
    • If you no longer have it then make an
      installation USB
      and run a
Repair install [also called an InPlace upgrade]
      .

Once you have a working system again & only if you have a ACHI setting in your BIOS -

    • Make a new system image before any more experiments.
    • If you do find an AHCI setting in your BIOS then you could try just changing it and seeing if the system still works. Another user did just that and found that it all continued working without anything else having to be done.
    • And if it doesn't work for your computer then you could
either go back to the BIOS, reset it then give up the idea or do a clean installation with AHCI set and see if that works.

will only boot windows with AHCI

Aktiver ahci i windows 10 home.

    Hi Moffe Nielsen,

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

If you want to install Windows OS on a Solid State Drive and boot it successfully after enabling AHCI in the bios, you can also follow the steps below to enable AHCI mode.

Method 1: Enable AHCI Mode via Command Prompt

    • Hit Start, type “command,” right-click that result and choose “Run as administrator.”
    • Type bcdedit /set {current} safeboot minimal into the dialog box and press the Enter.
    • Close the window and restart the computer to enter the BIOS.
    • Enable SATA AHCI mode in BIOS with the same steps as in Method 1, and then exit to boot into Windows safe mode automatically.
    • In the safe mode, open the Command Prompt (Admin) and type into
bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot, and then hit the
      Enter
      .
    • After all of the steps, you can now restart the PC. You will successfully boot a Windows after enabling AHCI mode in the BIOS.

Method 2: Enable AHCI Mode via Registry Modification:

    • Press Win+R to open the Run window. Type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    • As the Registry Editor opens, go to the following location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV

    • Select iaStorV. In the right panel, double click on the
Start DWORD to modify its value.
    • Set the value to 0 for AHCI.
    • Now again browser to the following location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorAV\StartOverride

    • Select StartOverride, and then in the right pane, double tap on the 0 DWORD to modify its value.
    • Set the value to 0. Click OK.
    • Now again navigate to the following location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci

    • In the right panel, double tap on the Start DWORD to modify its value.
    • Set the value to 0.
    • Again go to the following location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\StartOverride.

    • If you do not find the StartOverride, then close the Registry Editor, else continue to below steps.
    • In the right pane of
      StartOverride,
double click on 0 keyword and set the value to 0.
    • Close the Registry Editor.
    • Boot the computer to your BIOS or UEFI firmware settings.
    • In your BIOS or UEFI firmware settings, enable AHCI, and save & exit to apply the changes. Restart the computer.

Disclaimer: The registry is a database in Windows that contains important information about system hardware, installed programs and settings, and profiles
of each of the user accounts on the computer. Windows often reads and updates the information in the registry.

Normally, software programs make registry changes automatically. You should not make unnecessary changes to the registry. Changing registry files incorrectly can cause Windows to stop working or make Windows
    report the wrong information.

Please take a backup of the registry. Follow the steps given in the link below:

    Hope it helps.
