Will plugging in a external hard drive help internal hard drive problems

I've been having problems with my disk being 100% randomly and i've tried all the fixes from changing virtual memory, stopping services like sysmain and windows search and installing new drivers none of them have fixed the problem so im thinking about changing hard drive i was wondering if i could plug in a external hard drive to fix my internal hard drive problems such as high disk so i dont have to open up my computer to replace it.

    :)

  3. Problem with external hard drive

I have a sort of a solution. take the hard drive out from the external enclosure and try to rig it up directly to your pc like you would a normal hard drive.

it could be that the controller on the enclosure has gone haywire but the hard drive still works. I had a similar thing happen to me with e 640Gb WD external drive. Controller went bad and the only thing i could do to get windows to recognise the device was to take the hard drive out and put it into my pc like a normal internal HDD.

If your pc recognises the hard drive and you can access it etc etc, it probably is the controller on the enclosure thats borked.

maybe speak to maxtor or spend £15-30 on a new external hdd enclosure

    • When did the files start to disappear?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps you have done so far?
    • Did you make nay changes on the settings of your PC or hard drive prior to this issue?
    • Are you getting any error messages when trying to plug in your external drive?
