    Hi!

I had a lot of trouble using the Media Creation Tool at home to create media on a USB to use in my motherboard and CPU -upgrade, but I can use the Media Creation Tool at work. It is possible for me to use it to create the media on a USB at work, and then use that USB to boot Windows at home? They are different versions (home/pro) and licenses.

    :)

    Hello,

The Windows Media Creation Tool allows you to download the Windows 10 ISO directly from Microsoft, without having a product key. You can use it to clean install or upgrade to Windows 10. It can also be use to download the different editions of Windows 10.
    Refer to this
    link
to download the Windows 10 Installation Media Tool.

As for the build and version of your Windows 10, follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to open up the run command prompt.
    • Type winver into the run command text box and hit OK. You should now see a dialog screen revealing the OS build and registration information.

Should you need additional assistance, do let us know.

creating windows 10 media creation tool

    Hi Michael

Does you actually want to install version 1803, were you having difficulties with version 1809?

Your Windows 10 licence covers all versions of Windows, so if that is the reason your want to install version 1803, there is no need, you can go ahead and install 1809, your will not need a product key and activation will be automatic . . .

    1.

    Create 1809 Installation media:

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

    2.

    Create 1803 Media:

Microsoft don't provide version 1803 nymore - this is a reliable and safe method to create Windows 10 Bootable Media

Click this link to download the Windows 10 ISO

    TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

Click this link to download a tool from Microsoft which you can use to create the bootable installation media from that ISO - tool works for Windows 7, 8 and 10

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/detail...

    3.

    Install Windows 10:

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will
have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Download & use of media creation tool

    Hi Tushar,

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am sorry to know that you are facing issues with Windows 10 installation.

I do appreciate your efforts and time, and will assist you with the issue.

Some PCs may need long time to download Windows 10, depending on the quality of the internet connection.

Tip - If your Windows 10 download is taking too long, try disconnecting any USB devices and extended display cables that may be connected.

    Method 1

I suggest you to download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation tool and then perform Automatic Repair.

    Refer to the following link:

    Download Windows 10

(Refer to the section "Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool"
in the above article for creating the tool).

Once you have the installation media, follow the steps:

    • Start your computer from the installation media. Insert the disk or USB stick and restart your computer. If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t see the message, you might
need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the disk or USB. When you see the 'Install Windows' page, tap or click 'Repair your computer' link to start the Windows Recovery Environment.
    • In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, click 'Troubleshoot'.
    • Click, Advanced Options and then click on 'Automatic Repair'.
    • After this complete the repair and see if you are able to boot in to your computer.

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.
