Windows 10: Will updates ever install if you just shut down?

Discus and support Will updates ever install if you just shut down? in Windows 10 Updates and Activation to solve the problem; Hibernate and fast startup are co-dependent. Like I twice said before, disabling 'Fast Startup' is the option you want to disable if you want to... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Updates and Activation' started by spark001uk, Sep 6, 2015.

Nicely edited there! I was about to say I've only just discovered fast start was on, since reading the link. Seems a bit odd they've gone down this route, I always liked having a normal shutdown as standard! Whereas now if I want a proper shutdown I have to forego the low battery hibernation,!

I do get the logic that MS used here. I also think it is flawed.

  3. I think it's flawed too, for the reason I first stated. The average Joe who just wants to use the computer for a while each day and shut it down, having no interaction with Windows update, could unbeknown to themselves be piling up the updates!

So, slightly different angle then, do you think fast start is worth it, on newer machines especially? Mine has a hybrid drive with 8gb cache so it's pretty quick anyway?

Every machine is unique. It all depends on your unique combination of installed hardware and software, your battery performance, the way you use your laptop. Loads of variables. All you can do is give it a go for maybe a week. See how the pros and cons weigh up. Then make an informed choice based on personal experience. After all, it's just a couple of clicks to disable and another couple to re-enable.

Well i just disabled "fast start" because of freezing issues and no more computer freezes , thanks whoever suggested trying that . After rebooting numerous times with "fast start" disabled i see no difference , i really don't so i would say not worth it but everyones setup is different .

My laptop is about 3 to 4 years old , Intel i5 and 6 gig's of ram .
