    I'm currently running Windows 8.1 Pro and I have a Ubuntu 12.04 VM using Hyper-V.
    Will updating to Windows 10 affect my VM?

    Dual-booting

    It probably will, others have been reporting dual boot configurations affected by Windows 10 feature updates. So, its something to keep in mind. You can keep a copy of Ubuntu Boot Repair handy or use EasyBCD to restore a boot entry for Ubuntu Linux if
    the update affects it.

    About future updates on my laptop because of dual boot

    As long as you start the upgrade for future revisions of Windows 10 such as 1703, from within the current version of Windows 10, it will not affect the Ubuntu installation.
