Windows 8 supports predictive text but only using the touch keyboard.
Touch keyboard is not practical for most my usages, and I guess for other million users that use desktop applications.

My question is: will windows 10 support predictive text, like most smartphones and win 8 touch keyboard, for physical keyboard.
A system similar of typing pinyin to get Chinese characters, but for western languages, and not so obstructive *Wink.

    Cheers

How disactivate the "auto-selection" of words while writing?

To do what you tell me I use the # touch...

the problem is different: I cannot move my cursor along the text without selecting letters (!) eitherwith Predictive text on than Predictive text off...

    That's crazy!!

Personally think I'd find it nothing but an annoyance on a physical keyboarded device (or at least on desktops); we already have spell checker, which is the only real need for predictive text on a keyboarded device IMO. Predictive text is needed for smaller/touch devices that are a PITA to type on.

  5. Thank you for the reply, but personally I find predictive text extremely helpful.
Spell checkers only work documents, browsers and some other applications, but not on many desktop applications.
Furthermore, it avoids me to spend time writing the complete word.
Predictive text minimizes the time I spend typing.

  6. Even though this is an old post, I wanted to second the opinion of the OP in regard to predictive text with a physical keyboard.

I am not a good typer and while I write pretty decent English it is neither my language of birth nor am I a great speller. I use predictive text with my iPad Bluetooth keyboard and it is a pleasure to be able to get common misspellings and typing quirks automatically corrected on the fly. It makes me a lot more productive and the time I spend correcting the corrections is insignificant compared to the time I have to invest in correcting my bad spelling and mistypes.

I use a third party utility called "PhraseExpress" to simulate predictive text on my windows 10 computer, but it only does half the job at best and it is not capable of correcting properly spelled words that are wrong in context (verb tenses and the like).

I would love to be able to turn on predictive text for my keyboard in windows 10. Knowing that it is there but inaccessible to me is infuriating. For those that do not like predictive text, they don't have to use it. Microsoft doesn't need to turn it on at the factory. They should just give an option for those like me, to turn it on.

This resembles the iPad Bluetooth mouse controversy, where Apple prevents users from using a Bluetooth mouse with their iPad. When I use my iPad for writing, I have a Bluetooth keyboard that also has a stand for the ipad. Apple doesn't want me to use a mouse with the iPad, forcing me to have to use my finger to move the cursor on screen.

That is objectively more cumbersome than having a mouse when using a Tablet as a laptop. They even have a Mouse mode where 2 fingers behave as a mouse cursor, but they won't let you use a mouse.

That is just counterintuitive and wrong. Let us use your software and hardware the way we like. Don't force behavior , adapt to the user, not the other way around.

    Dear alexonwin10,
There is a new free app named . it offers predictive text (auto completion) without any touch/special keyboard and it works with Microsoft's Office apps (word, powerpoint, outlook). You can give it a try at http://www..io
