Win 10 1809 not showing my computer on network after a restart

I updated 5 computers 64bit from version 1803 to 1809, 2 out of 5 do not show up in the network after a restart.

The network setting is the same for all 5 computers, private network, network discovery allowed, file and printer sharing enabled on private networks all computer set in the same workgroup.

Previously they all worked fine with windows 10 v 1803 providing that service 'Function Network Discovery Publication' was up and running.

Restarting the service 'Function Network Discovery Publication' seem to fix the problem some times, or issuing 'netcfg -d' followed by a restart may be required to get those 2 computers to show up again, network reset and restart may also work.

The failure to show up happens after a normal restart consistently.

Once the computers show up the problem does not happen by doing a normal shutdown/power up sequence, but only after a restart.

I noticed that the 2 failing computers have both Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapters, the connection is done via ethernet while the Wi-Fi is disconnected. Both adapter are set for private network.

Here is the list of Computers :

    Failing:

    1) Dell XPS 8700 (Ethernet adapter Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller)

    (Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b|g|n 2.4GHz)

    2) MSI GT70-0NC (Ethernet adapter Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller)

    (Intel Centrino Wireless-N2230)

    Not failing:

    3) Dell XPS 8300 (Ethernet adapter Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet)

    4) Dell OptiPlex (Ethernet adapter Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet)

    5) Lenovo Yoga 920 (Intel Wireless AC 9260)

Any clue on why the first 2 computer fail showing up in the network after a restart ?

I also installed latest update build 17763.55 and the behavior is still the same.

sfc -scannow runs clean on all 5 computers.

    :)

  2. No computers show in Network

If we understood it correctly, the computers still do not show the Network tab after troubleshooting computer B. You may be correct that the firewall is blocking the network connection. You can try resetting the firewall settings and see if the issue will
still persist. Follow the steps below:

    • On the Search bar, type CMD.
    • Right-click the Command Prompt from the search result and select
      Run as administrator.
    • Type this command: netshadvfirewall reset and press
      Enter
      .
    • Once you are done, restart your PC.

We will wait for your update about the result.

Windows 1809 Started the install on Surface Pro 4 but it stopped and the update screen closed by itself.

It started the download of 1809 and I walked away. Came back twenty minutes later and the update page was no longer open. Tried update again and it said it's updated.

It didn't complete the update or state the RESTART NOW.

Update history lists 1809 and states RESTART REQUIRED but since it didn't complete the install restarting does nothing.

So it thinks it's installed the 1809 update but it hasn't. It won't download 1809 again.

    ABOUT say's it is 1803.

    Suggestions?

Win 10 1809 not showing my computer on network after a restart

Win 10 Network Printer Connection Problem

I have tried, when using the wifi from a Win 7 computer to connect to the printer connected to it. Others can connect.

I did do the three steps outlined:

    • Open File Explorer. Pick the "Network" icon from the left pane (navigation pane) of the file explorer UI.
    • If sharing is turned off you will see a pale yellow line towards the top of the window that states "Network Discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change...".
    • Click this bar and select "Turn on network discovery and file sharing"

    None of the suggestion worked.

I did notice that the PC I'm connecting to is 'Private' while I am listed as 'Public'.

    • Can this be causing the problem?
    • Are there other suggestions?

I need to be connected to use the other printer so work flow can not be disrupted and someone else needs to print the file for me.

I will be with this group again on Monday.

    Thank you.
