Windows 10: Win 10 2004 intermittently not connecting to mapped drives

I having an issue that just popped up out of the blue yesterday and can't figure this out.


I have a VM running Server 2008, Hyper_V Server 2019 host


There were no updates to Win10, but yesterday morning I started to lose connection to my mapped drive on Server 2008. We have 2 Win7 boxes that have zero issues accessing the mapped drives on the server, and 2 Win10 boxes that all of a sudden have the issue.


The mapped drive will connect right after a reboot, then a few minutes later start having issues. It will come back for a few seconds then will not connect. I can try to open a folder and nothing for a while a few seconds or minutes, not consistent, then will open. Can navigate the folder then nothing.


No consistency in the issue at all except that it happens on 2 Win10 PCs.


Temporarily turned off all anti-virus, firewall. No change


I did try a few fixes I found but no changes

The last I tried was this:


Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\Z or your drive letter, I deleted Z.



Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Map Network Drive MRU and delete the entry, a, b, etc, for your drive.


Then add the following after remapping your drive or else it will fail to connect after a reboot or shutdown.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\Z]

"ProviderFlags"=dword:00000001

Mapped Drives Issues

To clarify .... the issue is the Windows 10 OS. It is with Windows File Explorer. The Mapped drives used to appear in File Explorer's left panel list of drives and folders. Two days ago File explorer stopped show the mapped drives. so not they don;t appear in the list of Drives and folders.

I did, it has no effect. I also check the NAS devices they support SMB 2.0. Also I have several other computers on my home network they work fine with the mapped drives and They do not have SMB 1 turned on. So it is something that happened to the computer in question.

I've tested mapping a drive on both x86 and x64 W10 2004. After a restart the drives are still mapped and working.

What type of device are the shares you are mapping to on? Is it a NAS? Does it require SMB1 on the PC in order to work? If so, check to see if SMB1 got removed by the upgrade to 2004.

I do need SMB1 to access my share, it is an HDD in the USB port of my router, and the router only uses SMB1.
