Windows 10: Win 10 2004 update taking 3 days and not done

Win 10 2004 update has been taking three days to finish, it ain't close to being done. It looks like it went from "getting things ready" to "installing" and now it's back to "getting things ready." What in the world is this update going to be if it ever does get installed? Is it safe to stop this absurd Microsoft mess? If it is safe to stop this absurd Microsoft mess, is there a safe way to do it? Seems it'd be easier if Microsoft just sent everyone a case of 50 install DVDs.

Well that's why I asked. Mine is on SSD and takes 11 seconds. Your list of games will not appear if it has not checkd for updated suggested settings for awhile until it checks.

When it says it is refreshing the game list, it is checking, because NVIDIA periodically updates suggested settings. Plus it will look for those for new games you have installed.

So, the less it is run, the slower it will be.

 

why does small win 10 update take so long..

i have several devices i watch update the little phablet being one of them.. its now at 77% but i have tried restarting downloads often.. it never improves things just takes even longer cos it has to start at the begining again.. he he

i am not talking about a this time one off.. i am talking every time.. which where win 10 is concerned is many times.. he he

How long does the 2004 upgrade take using Windows Update?

A year ago I asked (and answered) the same question for 1903. Having just let Window Update successfully upgrade the same machine I used for those tests I can say that the answer remains the same. Times for each step were almost identical - over four hours from start to a working desktop.

My recommendation: unless you really need to see the Feature Update listed in update history, then download the ISO and use that to upgrade.
