WIN 10 Admin password not working.

I just realize that the Admin password and the Microsoft account password is not the same in Win 10 PC. I am in really odd situation right now: I changed the pc to start in safe mode without network and the admin password does not work. I usually use pin to log into the pc as administrator and in safe mode the only option is password, not pin! I have changed successfully the Microsoft acc password and i am able to log in online from other pc to the acc, but right now my pc is locked in safe mode. I don't have the installation disc, and cannot recover or unlock the pc. Is there a way to convert it back to start normally... ? I miss sooooo much the F8 boot option, because now without the password cannot change it to start in different mode and the laptop come with the image on the hd, not with win10 dvd disc to recover it.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    SN

    :)

Question on Windows 10 and Password when upgraded to WIndows 10

If a Win 8 account has lost it's admin password, and thus no admin rights, can the machine be upgraded to Win 10 creating a new admin password that can be established?

  3. windows 10- system password- not users login

Three year old Lenova z710. Upgraded from 8.1 to Win 10 a few days ago. User login pw stayed the same. Dvd drive would not work so I shut down and tried to open BIOS (separate button from power button on my machine) to check the boot order. A password
box opened that did not accept my login password. This never happened with Win 8.1. Is there a standard system or admin password that Win 10 requires that Win8.1 did not? How do I set or, probably, an admin password?

WIN 10 Admin password not working.

If you can get this to run from a command prompt, it will give you F8 option back:
    "bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy"

    without the quotes, of course.

As far as I know, the safe mode only allows users to login as local account instead of other sign-in options (PIN, Microsoft account or picture password). I suggest you to use the freeware Offline NT Password & Registry to remove your lost local admin password. Once you're able to login to the safe mode, it will be easy for you to set your PC to start in normal mode.

well, that is the odd place I am stuck into. Without the admin password I don't see a way to get to the command prompt options... It appears to me like a damn trap!
    Anyway, thanks for the input.

The NT is not working on WIN 10 or at least not in my case. I did it with the usb, the program starts and runs, but when it comes to the windows it says it's hibernated. When forcing it, still some other issues with the partitions.. I looked the read me file - win 8.1 is the latest version mentioned to work.

Is there any way to get rid of the safe mode??? without the admin password, as in my case? Really, really dead end street with this.

Hi nikolod! It seems that nt password reset refuses to mount the hibernated Windows partition. By default, shutting down hibernates Windows 10 on your system partition automatically, but Restarting does not. Try this workaround:
    • After booting to the Windows 10 login screen, put the nt password reset CD in the CD drive.
    • From the login screen, click on the Power icon at the bottom right of the screen, and select Restart.
    • Once restarting, the computer will boot to the nt password reset and it should be able to mount your partition successfully.
I hope this will work for you.

This really helped and the Hibernate problem was put to rest, however the pswd is not reset. I am following the default option in NT and at some point it is just cycling around, until i choose to quite. I can see the admin has been selected and some attempts are made to clear the register. I says the pswd appears to be blank and suggest to log in with blank pswd. Also when quitting, it asked to write the changes to the disk - y. But when tested later, there still is a password.
The program looks pretty neat though.

Some steps from me: on the pc is a guest acc, so no password. This is still something, then i achieve to get to the Recovery and restart. Now I have tried various options like run Safe mode with Command prompt and type the bcdedit command, which is access denied. Option 2 to run just the command prompt also failed, because ask for admin password.

Guys, is there any way to get rid of the Safe mode from the recovery/ troubleshoot/ advanced options without the admin password?????

I found this whole story to be really, really big safety issue for this windows. If the only option is to log in to safe mode with the password(no pin) why the hell, they do not ask for it when switching it on?! Poor programming from everywhere! Also some restriction are easy to go around - after couple of days playing around on this issue.

    hello everyone,

first big thanks for your help. However i could not resolve the issue with the admin password in safe mode win 10.
My solution was to reinstall the windows from the recovery image file saved on the hd.
If you are in my situation, I will describe shortly what you need to do to get this thing done.
My case: Safe mode with no network. One admin and one guest acc. If you do not now the admin pwd, the only one option is to go to the guest acc.
From there, press win button +x, select " control panel" and "recovery" - if you try to go to the recovery from the settings, it will not let you do that, this menu is locked out there.
So, once in recovery, click on the "If you are having problems with your pc, go to Settings...."
    From there: Reset now.
From the blue screen: Troubleshooting->Reset PC and choose default manufacture option. For the other two choices will be admin pwd needed.
You could change boot option like to start in command prompt - admin pwd needed; safe mode with command prompt and try to access boot register with bcdedit - access denied; So with two words, once landed in safe mode without the pwd, there is no easy way back. Thats why the admin pwd should be requested in order to switch to safe mode, this will prevent to happen problems like mine.
    So,Good luck.
MS should work to improve this issue. Seems like programmer is not following basic rules...

WIN 10 Admin password not working.

Hi nikolod! It's great that you have worked out the problem by yourself. Actually, in Windows 10 or 8 you can also create a Recovery Drive from the Control Panel applet. Just boot your problematic PC from the Recovery Drive, and it allows you to reset/refresh any Windows 10/8 system without prompting for any password.

Well, that was my first trial - from recovery screen - reset pc- first option is to keep the docs and files. Did not work to the end for me. After system is restarted and starting to perform the reset, first ask to choose acc(in my case the admin) and password! So dead end again. If someone go to the WIN 10 safe mode and do not have the admin password, there is so far no way out, then whipping the pc. I am not an expert, but average user and there still might be a way I am not getting to...
Anyway very confusing case, good I got backup on my really important files a side, so the whipping it out did not hurt that much.

    Thank you for your input.

I am in the SAME safe mode hell. I can't get out of the safe mode no networking - no command prompt. I log in to my Windows 10 with a PIN password which is how my system was set up. I did not know there were other types of passwords I also needed to setup.I never had a problem logging in before and never had changed my password so when I first got the reboot and password not recognized error message I was very confused.

I do not have a backup of my computer since I bought it in November. Shame on me. I have been stuck in this cycle for 3 weeks now and have been trying googling and trying everything I can read. I don't want to give up and have to start over from the system recovery. I had so many problems with my laptop when I got it with it crashing every 10 minutes and I had my 90 day warranty with Lenovo so I was able to change a lot of settings to get my computer to run without crashing all the time. Lots of software and hardware updates plus all my programs that I don't have the installs of anymore.

I just can't give up as I have too much to lose. Has anyone come across a way to get out of safe mode when your admin password isn't working for Windows 10 login screen?

I need a real smart techie to help me out with some ideas to try!

I would be greatful for any suggestions! Thank you in advance!
