Windows 10: Win 10 BSOD Bad Pool Error

I am at my wits end. I had win 7 with all the exact same HW and no issues. I like win 10 (installed last year) and only recently in last couple of weeks have been hit by this BSOD. On a good day, its 1 BSOD, on a bad day, 4+. No rhyme or reason.

I7 920 with 16 GB RAM
Bitdefender and malwarebytes
Win 10
Dell studio xps 9100 from 2010.
MSI R9 270 graphics card


I have updated the Realtek network adapter to the latest one
I have rolled uninstalled the GPU and its SW and reinstalled it
I have run sfc /scannow and no issues found
I have used ccleaner to check and fix any registry issues (none found so far)
I have done chkdsk /f and no issues

I have never had any conflicts in Win 7 or Win 10 with bitdefender and malwarebytes together.
I have not added any new hw

I am almost at the stage of reinstalling win 10 (after backing up my stuff) or buying a new updated pc

Guys I really need your help. I'm getting BSOD (Bad Pool Header) so many times.

The thread is based around Windows 8, but the solution from Nannya Podder holds true for WIndows 10

After upgrading from Windows 7 to 10, I recurrently get the Bad Pool Header BSOD and Windows 10 won't run

• Downloaded and installed Windows 10 as an upgrade from Windows 7 which was working fine
• Installation went well but, when Windows 10 started up, after a few moments, I get the BSOD Bad Pool Header error and it reboots;
• After rebooting, I again get the BSOD Bad Pool Header.
• Ultimately, rolled back to Windows 7 because I never had a stable Windows 10 desktop.
• Once, upon rebooting, it performed a CHKDSK--no errors found;
• Once, I appeared to have a stable Windows 10 desktop--but then developed the BSOD Bad Pool Header when I opened Outlook or Explorer for the first time.

Suggestions? I'm now back in Windows 7 and would like to use Windows 10.

 

If you are using a program like Ccleaner please stop using it while troubleshooting.
This because programs like Ccleaner remove dump files that are needed to troubleshoot.
Or configure Ccleaner to not remove dump files:

Unfortunately you may have now, the crashes are blaming the web protection feature of Malwarebytes but this is a conflict between a driver of Bitdefender and Malwarebytes.
Do you have Bitdefender 2012 and 2016 installed?

Too funny, was typing in Hi Axe when system BSODed, did not know you were that powerful Latest dmp file attached.

Noted re ccleaner, will ensure that is unchecked, did not know

Re Bitdefender. I started with 2012 then was upgraded to 2016. Did not know both startup items were there. Will figure out how to remove.....
Re Malwarebytes, sigh, I guess I have to remove unless new atached file tells you different ?
Re driverbooster, will see if can find log and try and roll back everyhting (assuming can find it), then will remove driverbooster. Do you have a better alternative other then win update ?
Re iobit sw..noted...will uninstall anything I can find on it.

FYI, the new uploaded zip file is the exact same as your previous upload.

The best method is manually for at least following reasons
1. It is garanteed that the installation is proper,
2. The driver is the right one and not corrupted somehow.

Driver update software usually checks all the devices in device manager, most of them are handled by Windows because they are drivers from Windows, there is no way to update them except through either Windows Update or manually downloading and installing the update package from the site of Microsoft.
'Updating' or 'reinstalling' such drivers via driver update software causes more harm than good.

Same cause, I have a question and a test for you. Does a crash happen when you completely remove Bitdefender and use Windows Defender instead? I assume it doesn't. I have the same problem as you but for me it takes a lot longer to test and this is something that Malwarebytes needs to know so it can be fixed *Smile I've been in contact with Malwarebytes about this problem since a few weeks and I've been asked to remove Bitdefender temporary to see if that helps which would be a confirmation that there is a driver conflict between Bitdefender and Malwarebytes, I'll do this when I have time to remove Bitdefender but since you're crashes are more frequently I thought I ask it *Smile

[/quote] Hi Axe, I remember a while back , about a year or so ago where Bitdefender told me to remove MB due to compatability issue, which I did not do as I beleive it has a better malware solutions than bitdefender does. I have another 2 laptops , both with win 10, where they coexist beautifully w/o any issues whatsoever.

I have already removed MB based on the previous post (no BSOD for 2 hours now) so I can't unfortunatly help you with the crash analysis. You did prompt me though where I will contact MB and ask if there is anyhting they can do to help. Who knows, it might prompt them for something. I usually reccomend MB to anyone so this is a rather big deal to me.

Do please keep me updated in whatever MB replies back to you and I will do same as I open a support ticket to them.

 

Hi Axe, here is what MalwareBytes cambe back to me when I opened up a ticket with them re issue with Bitdefender. I am currently testing it out and will report back:

To resolve this, run a repair on the Bitdefender program.
To do this, open the Windows Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.
Locate the Bitdefender program and click the Uninstall button. A repair wizard will appear. Click on the Repair option and follow the wizard. Reboot your PC.

I've been told the same, but it I've done a few repairs and reinstallations without success before they said that.

 

I suspect you are right, but its worth a try.

I just repaired BD, then shut down, then reinstalled Malwarebytes. Now we wait and see what happens

I do have another 2 laptops where both Bitdefender and MalwareBytes coexist very happily, w/o a single BSOD, so I have hope

 

What installation of Bitdefender is installed on your systems?

• Anti-Virus plus,
• Internet Security,
• Total Security?

 

Total Security 2016. It was an upgrade from 2012 Internet security. Lifetime licence aka 5 years

 

If there are no exclusions in either programs, those systems are lucky then.
