Win 10 Clean Install after Upgrade Install

I've upgraded from Win 7 Pro x64 to Win 10 Pro x64 via the upgrade install. The system indicates the Win 10 install is activated. Presently, this install is to buggy. I intend to wipe the disk clean and perform a clean install via bootable USD flash drive and the downloaded Win 10 Pro installation program.

What will happen when I perform the install with activation? Will the clean install activate, because the hardware is now registered? Or, will I have to call for activation with my OEM Win 7 product key?

    Regards

    :)

  2. Upgrading from Windows 8.1. Professional retail product key to Windows 10 -- what happens to your product key and right to reinstall?

My win 7 ultimate is acting "funny" especially in email; computer seems slow; will win 10 fix these things?

Can I reinstall win 10 after the upgrade (clean install?)

Should I reinstall win 7 before the upgrade or does it matter; can I do a clean install after the upgrade?

If I clean install win 7 do I have to restart the reservation?

Can I clean install win 7 after the upgrade and still have win 10?

How can I tell if my win 7 ultimate, 64 bit is considered a retail version or an oem?

I have too much data in my recovery disk partition (2 backups, I think); will win 10 fix this or what's my best approach to rectify?

I suspect a clean install is likely the best remedy to get to pristine?

  3. Windows 10 activation through clean install (not upgrade) using Windows 7 key

If you did not upgrade to win 10 and activate before you clean installed you will not be able to activate it. Win 10 must first be done as an upgrade, after which you can clean install

No key will activate the OS if you clean installed first. You will have to reoll back (or re-install) the previous OS then upgrade.

Win 10 Clean Install after Upgrade Install

It will activate, during clean install just skip where is will ask for the key.Remember will loose all third party software, windows settings and some system and hardware drivers, so will need to reinstall them along with any Windows updates. As to make sure have an important software, files backed up an an external device before hand. Windows 7 did you have a disc or recovery partition ?

I've got the original OEM Win 7 DVD media with product key.

This is going to be total clean install with new drive partitions. I will download all the pertinent drivers. I want to see if I can have a successful clean install on this Intel motherboard with Win 7 being the latest Intel drivers since they got out of the desktop board market. Intel has no plans to update their desktop board drivers if the board has reached end of support. I think most of their desktop boards are at least three years old so they've reached end of support.

One thing I'm interested in is whether or not this clean install will install the DVD app. I've read that it's only installed on an upgrade if the upgrader had WMC installed. Otherwise, you need to buy it from the app store.

Windows 10 may have some of these system drivers, this part you would know if you already upgraded first if had issues. Just when you do a clean install will wipe some hardware drivers and system drivers, even though some maybe on new OS.
As far as WMC been done away with in New OS Microsoft's discontinued Media Center suite can now unofficially...

Was a DVD app from Windows Store if still available but does not support Blu-Ray. Best to use a free ones found online similar to VLC Player.

Well, I'm going to load Win 10 on a raw drive so everything is new. The upgrade appeared to use the original Intel drivers from what I could tell, but they wouldn't uninstall then reinstall. So, I'm going to start new and see what happens. Win 10 may have incorporated Intel drivers, but Microsoft doesn't do the best job with Intel drivers from what I've observed. It's best to install those yourself.

Win 10 Clean Install after Upgrade Install

This i am not sure i saw you say, New Hard Drive or SSD, should be fine as long as you were originally activated with an upgrade to Win 10. Myself i did not receive many Intel drivers through Windows 10, as i got them from my motherboards site afterwards.
As far as other hardware that is easier, Video Card, sound card, Network adapter. I have seen this with Intel and rarely check there site for drivers as my motherboard is not older.

Another option for those who did not upgrade first.

One thing I have noticed with this upgrade install is that it appears the system is set to selective start up. I checked the msconfig pop-up and I've reset to normal start, but after each restart, the setting is back to selective start. Also, the "apply" button doesn't activate unless I select diagnostic start and then click normal start. These are the types of issues that make upgrade installs crapola. My anti-virus apparently isn't on the start up menu either. When I check msconfig, the box indicates to check task manager, but I don't see anywhere on task manger where you set your anti-virus to start with system start. Presently, I'm getting a notification to start the anti-virus about a minute after each start. The pop-up from the lower right of desktop indicates to tap the notification to turn on anti-virus. I hope that's not how it's done with a clean install.

This is normal behavior for Windows 10,8.1 and 8 Selective Startup, also due to startups you have disabled then before.
Read why others ask, ways around it, but believe then you are enabling every startup it can.

What Anti-Virus for starts are you using ? Startup tab in Task Manager will not list this. As to look through the Process Tab and Details Tab. Anti-Viruses are always started and stopped within the software itself, disabled temporarily and renabled through software itself, never seen someone do it from the task manger all your doing it ending the task temporarily till next restart. Well be best if knew bit more about AV you are using. Remember you are coming from Windows 7 all the way to Windows 10, a lot has changed since 7. Yes you can do it things through msconfig and even Services.msc for running processes.

Before you start the clean-install, download any drivers you may need. I have seen cases that the LAN or WiFi do not work until you install drivers. This means no internet connection to download the drivers, so do it beforehand. Also I would avoid Windows Update (uncheck the box to look for updates during install) to make sure I won't have any issues due to generic Microsoft non-working drivers. After successfully installed Windows 10, you can install the chipset driver, restart and then everything else. This makes sure the drivers are the latest and most compatible. Also hide any driver updates as described here to avoid working drivers being replaced and get into problems.

I don't think it's normal for the system to stay in selective start up. If it stays in selective start up, there is a reason. Perhaps is due to an upgrade install where something has been disabled due to conflict. Perhaps a driver is not correct. I don't know for sure, but I think it's something that needs to be investigated.

If selective start up was normal, why do they have an normal start up option displayed?

Win 10 Clean Install after Upgrade Install

I've always thought that it takes a computer to build a computer. I've got an old notebook PC running XP that I use to download drivers and other software if I get stuck. I can also post on the help forums if it's a really bad issue.

Did you read any of links i posted to you on this ? In fact from what i read this started with the last update in Windows 7, why does not seem right to you as this was last OS you have been using. Selective Startup is usually set when some processes in services and Startup are disabled or set to manual settings. Which might be the case with Windows 8 on. I believe if you try to let it stay in Normal startup you will then be starting processes that do not need to start along with startups you may want to be disabled as this is how it worked with older OS. As to when you disabled a process then Windows would run in selective startup.
Basically i can not explain for sure why it works this way now, all i know is it is normal for it to since Windows 8.

What you've posted doesn't make sense. I just checked my Win 7 x64 and it's in normal start mode. It always stays in normal start mode unless I change it. For Win 10 on this upgrade install, it stays is selective start up even after I change it to normal start up. On a normal start up, everything that's loaded to start should start. Some items will be on delayed start. But, everything will start on the normal start up. That is how it should be.

I'll will reaffirm my belief that if Win 10 won't stay in normal start up then something is wrong.
