Windows 10: Win 10 Clean Install on HP Pavillion- Error 0x80070003

Hi,

I am trying to do a clean install of windows 10 on a new SSD on an HP Pavillion purchased in 2009 or 2010. I am booting from a DVD. All is going well in the beginning of the install. I get past the product key verification and partition section. Once it starts copying the windows file during the install it has been giving me the following error message and stopping the install:

"Windows cannot install required files. The file does not exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070003."

It has made it to different percentages of copying files before it gives me the error. Once I believe it made it almost to 100% and then gave me the error.

I have since re-downloaded the ISO twice onto different discs with no success. Have called microsoft support with no success. Tried booting from USB but the computer does not seem to support it. Tried updating bios but no newer versions were available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have spent most of the day trying to figure this out.

Windows 10 is in refresh loop

I downloaded and installed Win 10 on my Hp Pavillion p7-1027c just today with no errors. And my computer starts up after installation and I can't do anything because my desktop is in an infinite refresh loop, at least I think. What's happening and how
do I fix it?

 

i think error 0x80070003 is a disk (partitions) error. i have the same error myself. tried everything except correcting the partitions because i dont know how to do it, but it worked for others.

 

Hello there! jmillman Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Do you have a second storage drive plugged in by chance? It sounds that way by your description of adding in an SSD some time back while perhaps using the drive that came with the system for storage/backup purposes? If that other drive is plugged any upgrade attempt will fail regardless of how far you get in any attempt! Been there done that already!

When in the bios be sure it is set for Native IDE not AHCI as that will hamper booting from optical media in a large way! And I upgraded a laptop also lacking the F11 or F12 type boot device menu allowing you to select the "USB HHD" option from that when trying to boot live from a flash drive.

The best advice there however besides scanning the drive for bad sectors and wearing out from use is to simply wipe it clean seeing everything gone including the small OEM and 3rd crapware partitions to see a single OS primary created using the Drive tools option when first starting the 10 installer or having used a 3rd party disk partitioning program. I had to remove the OEM partitions on an HP laptop a few weeks back in order to see the drive split up to create a second backup partition since not much will be going onto that unit. You couldn't shrink or expand the OS primary after the other small parts were tossed!

 

I somehow got it working finally. I did several more failed attempts. Did one last try. Used compressed gas to dust the inside of the PC off and said a prayer and somehow it worked and seems to be working fine now. This was incredibly frustrating but glad it is finally working. Thanks for your replies and glad I found this forum.

 

If debris gets into a sata port on the board or on the drive's contacts pushing the power or data cable out just a bit that will be a problem! By blasting everything out the intermittency ended! You have to get in there every so often and blast the crap out of everything! *Roflmao2
