  1. Win 10 File Sharing

Have a new Win 10 desktop that does not accept files on the Network. Cannot Copy a file from a Win 10 laptop to the C:\Users\Public Folder on the new Win 10 desktop.

In Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings: Public Folder Sharing is turned on for Private, Guest or Public, and All Networks. In All Networks, Password Protection is Off.

In File Explorer, in C:\Users\Public, in Properties, the Public folder is Shared.

    Been here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4092694/windows-10-file-sharing-over-a-network
Computers are on the same Network.
WiFi Network is set to Private.

    Did Run/services.msc
In each of the following Services, changed Start from Manual to Automatic, and they are all running now.
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
    SSDP Discovery
    UPnP Device Host

Rebooted to make sure that all Setting changes took effect.

Checked to make sure the above Services were running.

Tried to copy a file from the Win 10 Laptop to the Win 10 Desktop.

The good news is that the Laptop finally sees the elusive Desktop machine.

The bad news is that when it does see the machine, and its Public Folder, and the file is sent. it says:

    "Destination Folder Access Denied"
"You need permission to perform this action"

What does it take to get this permission?

For the record, I can still Copy to Public on the Win 7 desktop machine . . .

    Any help gratefully accepted.

    :)

  3. File Sharing between homegroup computers using Win 10 and Win 7

None of he suggestions offered have solved he problem. However, I found out why I was not able to see the Window 7 PC folders on my Win 10 laptop. It was all related to the difference in how you find a computers on a homegroup. As it turns out, the
Windows 10 menu structure for getting to the Network is different between the Win 7 and Win 10 operating systems. The homegroup computers can be seen on the Win 7 buy going to Network and File Sharing on the Control Panel and by clicking on the the House
Icon between the Win 7 PC icon and the Internet Icon. These icons are not part of the Network and File Sharing menu on Win 10. Instead, the homegroup computers can be found on the Network icon under the Computer Menu on Win 10 computers. Once I found Win
7 listed under the Network Icon on the Win 10 computer I was able to access all of the shared folders on the Win 7 PC.

    Win 10 File Sharing

    Win 10 Network file sharing

    Hi Charles,

We would like to ask for more information about your concern so we could provide a proper resolution. Kindly answer the following questions:

    • Since when have you been experiencing this issue?
    • When was the last time that your Vista desktop and Windows 10 laptop see or share files to your Windows 10 desktop?
    • Were there any changes made on your devices prior to the issue?

Meanwhile, we suggest running the troubleshooter for shared folders. This will automatically find and fix issues with accessing files and folders on other computers.

To run this troubleshooter, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then select
    Shared Folders.

We look forward to your response.
