Win 10 freeze that’s annoying but fixable w ctrl alt del

Just before Thanksgiving I purchased a refurbished HP 8100 with Win 10 Professional installed

Not long after I started using it I noticed that every so often the functionality of the browsers whether using edge or chrome stops working in whole or part (freezes up), and I need to hit the keys alt control delete to get it to unfreeze. I would love to know if there is an easy solution or suggestions on what I might check. I have confirmed all my Windows 10 updates are current. I also submitted a similar post back in December (without the last paragraph below which I consider a potentially significant bit of new information) and received a number of suggestions which I tried - like checking memory, scan disk, etc, but they did not solve the issue . Although I indicated this is a browser issue I have also had it happen in Word and on my taskbar.

The system is using 2 hard drives, one an SSD for the operating system and the other a SATA (on which there is also an installed version of the operating system, as an emergency back up to the one on the SSD, but it is not used). I also note that the seller added 16 GB RAM to the motherboard at my request so that I have a total of 24 GB .

***The reason I am reposting is because I am now wondering if my monitor rather than my PC is causing my issues. Yesterday, in addition to the DVI cable that I have going to my PC I just added an HDMI cable from the monitor to my work laptop so I can switch between the two PCs via the monitor input. Now, the work laptop is occasionally freezing which it had never done before, and perhaps this is just an odd coincidence but since the symptoms and solution are the same thought it worthy of asking the experts.

Any advice or answers are greatly appreciated!

    :)

  2. Ctrl Alt Del, Vista

The whole Ctrl+Shift+Esc should be used to get that crazy screen with those options and Ctrl+Alt+Del should bring up TM.

    Ctrl Alt Del, Vista

On a domain you won't get Task Manager when you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del. You get a crazy screen with a bunch of options.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc has always brought up just the Task Manager, even back to Windows XP days. You just weren't aware of it. *Wink Win 10 freeze that’s annoying but fixable w ctrl alt del ;)

Go ahead, try it in Windows XP too.

    Ctrl Alt Del, Vista

Depends on whether you have the Welcome Screen, or the Domain Logon screen at boot up.
