Win 10 Basic upgrade to Win 10 Pro

I just a bought a Lenovo laptop [Yoga 3 14] which came pre installed with Win 8.1. The laptop has been upgraded to Win 10 because I wanted to evaluate it.

I have got a Win 7 ultimate license too and I want to upgrade my laptop to Win 10 Pro. Whats the best upgrade path I should follow? Is there a direct path to upgrade from Win 10 Basic to Win 10 Pro by using the Win 7 ultimate key? Or do I need to downgrade
all the way to 7 and the go upgrade.

    Thanks in advance.

windows 10 pro anniversary update problems

I have computer with Win 7 ultimate. Last year I upgraded to win 10 pro and discovered that during the upgrade my Bitdefender security program was completely removed. I had to reload it. Also I had all sorts of problems with Google Chrome, even with the
suggested work a rounds. Eventually, I wet back to my Win 7 Ultimate. It took me almost a week to do this because I ultimately had to wipe my drive and load fresh from my win 7 ultimate program disks. after that I had to reload all my programs one at a time.
I wonder if now the Windows 10 pro is any better. I´m really comfortable with my Win 7 Ultimate but I know eventually I´ll have to step up. Any body have any insight or comments?

Win 10 (from 7 Ultimate) upgrade wants to wipe all settings

Did you relocate any folders to another drive? If so, put them back then try the upgrade again.

Swap the drives. Move the SSD to Sata 0, put the other as Sata 1 or leave it disconnected for now.

How are you starting the upgrade?

Are you running setup.exe from a DVD, flash drive or just mounting the ISO?

Did you try the Clean Boot that was mentioned on the Win 7 forum thread?

I upgraded my laptop without problems with ISO DVD.
As the C drive on the PC is a clone of the former HDD on SSD,I think this is the culprit.
    My question:
    Would these be possible:
-Take an image of the laptop with Norton Ghost and install it to the SSD in the PC?
-Boot only the former HDD (is blank now) with the DVD,clean install here and then clone it to the SSD?

    Or is this nonsense ?

Don't think that will work. You need to do the upgrade and activate any system to get the free Win 10. Imaging from one computer and restoring on another won't work. Even if it boots it won't activate.

What is the "EXACT" error message?

Looking at the setuperr.log, I think this is the cause:

Is "windows version is on a not supported folder" a translation from another language?

I'll ask again, have you relocated any folders, like any of your user account folders, Documents, Movies, Pictures, etc., to a different location? BY that I mean not under C:\Users\youraccountname.

    Hmm, just had a thought.

Try enabling the hidden Administrator account then login as Administrator and run the upgrade from there.

    Open a Elevated Command Prompt.
    Enter net user administrator /active:yes
    Exit Command Prompt.
    Sign out.
    Login as Administrator.
    Insert flash and run setup.exe.

  13. Win 10 (from 7 Ultimate) upgrade wants to wipe all settings

Your disk schema is a bit wonky - this happens a lot when people put new drives in machines.

You might be able to quickly resolve this by disconnecting the 2nd HD, restart with ONLY the SSD connected.
If you haven't already, download the ISO instead of upgrading this pc in the Media Creation Tool. That way, if it fials, you have the install media and don't have to download anything other than Windows updates.
You won't need to put the ISO on a device - when the download completes, press the finish button

See: Download Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel from Official Microsoft Download Center
for Win7 only ... Win8 has native mounting support.
edit: I could not get the above tool to work, so I removed the suggestion from this post.

Use the above tool to mount the Win10 ISO as a drive, then run setup from that mounted drive.

If the upgrade still gives you trouble, try this with ONLY the SSD connected.
Startup Repair - Windows 7 Help Forums

Pay attention the the yellow tip box at the end - you might have to run the repair three time.

    It did not help.
Tried both suggestions + with Magic ISO Virtual disk.
    Same result.
Tried to boot from CD in order to install to the HDD where it was formerly installed(SSD unattached)
here is some hint about previos version and repair option but in the end ı get "device is locked "?
