  1. win 10 keeps defaulting my sound to 5.1

I have win 10 pro and pare my system up with Creative ZXR and headphones.

When I configure my sound to be stereo it works.

But on the next boot up, the sound goes back to 5.1. I have to manually configure it again to be stereo.

    How do I fix this?

5.1 surround sound issue in Windows 10

    Hi,

    Thank you for your response.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

If you’re connecting an optical cable the settings would be changed so try the following steps

    Two options:

    1. Use the optical S/PDIF output of your motherboard.

    2. Use the HDMI output of your GPU. (This is what I'd recommend if you're using a HDMI display).

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Go to control panel.

    • Select sound.

    • Click on playback devices.

For option 1- connect the cable and set the 'Realtek digital output' as default device.

    • Then right click on it.

    • Go to properties.

    • At the rightmost tab select DTS or Dolby Digital or 5.1.
For option 2-connect the HDMI cable through the receiver and set the 'Nvidia HDMI Output' as your default device. Then click 'Configure' and select 5.1 and check if it helps.

If the issue persist then, I suggest you to connect the speakers directly and check in the realtek audio manager if he gets the 5.1 option or not using the SPDIF\output.

Keep us posted on this issue so that we can assist you better.

  3. 5.1 Surround sound in windows 10

    Hi Jeka,

There are some reasons why you don't get the 5.1 surround sound. Some of these are caused by the type of audio format, how the file was encoded, if the file supports 5.1 surround sound and such. For us to determine what's causing
the concern more precisely, please provide information on the following:

    • The type of file that you're trying to play.
    • Troubleshooting steps done to rectify this concern

For now, before we go to a more in-depth troubleshooting, we suggest you run

    audio troubleshooter.
Look for Find and fix problems playing sounds.

Don't hesitate to update us if you need further assistance.

    Best regards,

win 10 keeps defaulting my sound to 5.1

Creative Sound Blaster Z Defaults to 5.1

Since upgrading to Windows 10, I've downloaded Creative's supposed August driver. Unfortunately if I head into playback devices, I keep discovering on every boot that the channels have defaulted to 5.1. I change them to stereo every time I boot my machine, but they then revert to 5.1 on the next startup. I'm assuming it's a problem with Creative's Windows 10 driver, and so I've since emailed them.

Anybody else with a Sound Blaster on Windows 10 with this issue?
