Windows 10: Win 10 laptop. Why serial port only duplicates and not allow individual use.

I have a Toshiba Laptop with the 15 pin serial port. It allows orginal screen duplicate to a 2nd monitor but does not allow for separate usage. In other words it doesn't detect it as a 2nd monitor to set up. I've run a few troubleshooters with no success. The laptop also has a HDMI Port and I tried that cable to the monitor and seems it didn't even show a duplicate. Any suggestions are appreciated. The 2nd monitor works fine on another device. jep

Fresh Install of Win 10 without Serial Key?

Looking to reformat a laptops HDD, and then reinstall Win 10 fresh. The problem is it came pre-installed with Win 8 and I did the free upgrade to Win 10. How exactly would I re-format the HDD, reinstall Win 10 and ensure it reactivates properly? I don't see a Win 8 serial key anywhere in the contents of the box.

 

Win 10 Serial COM port fails Duplex operation

Following the update of my laptop, an FZ-55 from win 7 to win 10, I've had problems with threading and specifically the COM port threading. Our program used to be able to transmit while still being able to detect errors and a break sent by the receiver. This no longer functions as in the past. If the Serial COM port is in a transmit state, it seems unable to detect any received input. The serial port driver has been updated to reflect the FZ-55 it's an Intel 10 - 64 driver set as delivered by Panasonic for the laptop. It does generate the following output

"cmd: pnputil /add-driver Windows10-x64\*.inf /install "Mon 10/31/2022 ERRORLEVEL:5"

Not sure what that means.

Under any circumstances, updating the driver made no difference in the behavior. If I just use the port in a simplex fashion, it behaves properly. But this is not full duplex operation as before nor will it work for us. Do we need to roll back to Win 7?

If you want to change the port settings, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Device manager (right click on start button
   and then on Device manager).
   
2. Then expand port (COMS & LPT).
   
3. Then right click on Prolific USB-to Serial Comm Port and then on properties.
   
4. Go to port settings and click on Advanced.
   
5. You will be able to make the changes on this screen.
