    Win 10 not completing install

Upgrading from Win 7 and after compatibility check (all 3 items OK) the download commences, the upgrade commences BUT STOPS at 99%. No error messages or anything after being stuck on that for hours.

I recommenced the whole procedure again, making sure my antivirus was turned off, same result.

    Where to now? *Sad
    Thanks for any simple instructions.

p.s. Before commencing update I ran CCleaner and MalwareBytes to give a "clean" system. All data has been backed up.

    :)

  2. Win 10 updates not completing

Update history log indicates that all driver updates were installed. The Update Troubleshooter says a reboot is necessary. Checking the Updated History log after reboot says that the updates need a restart to complete. Its a endless loop!

  3. Win 10 updates not completing

    Hi David,

The reason why the Windows update is not completing is due to driver incompatibility. To resolve your issue, we suggest that you try updating using the Windows 10 upgrade assistant which you can download by clicking the Update now button on this

    link
    .

Furthermore, we also recommend that you follow the guided walk-through on the following link:

    Fix Windows Update errors.

We would appreciate it if you could get back to us and give us an update with the result.

No, you have to install them afresh.

    Thanks Arc for your advice.

In the meantime, on the Win 10 upgrade prompt, I tried again and once again it did not complete the upgrade. Stopped at 99%. No error messages or anything. I guess I can delete the Wins10Upgrade folder off my C drive.

I have just had a new desktop system built, will load Win 8/8.1 on (I have a new unused disk for that) and will upgrade to Win 10 from there. Maybe I should have run that one on my present Win 7 before attempting the Win 10 upgrade?

And I do have a laptop (upgraded) running Win 10 successfully.

As the French may say C'est la vie. *really

    Win 10 not completing install

The best way to upgrade with the least amount of problems is to download the Windows 10 ISO from TechBench. If you are upgrading from Windoes 7, create a new folder on the Desktop, extract the ISO to the folder you just created. With Windows 7 you are going to need a third party program to do that. I use 7 Zip. It's free. After you extracted the ISO, open the folder and double click on Setup.exe.

If you are upgrading from Windows 8, right click the ISO and choose Mount. Then open File Explorer, you will see a new drive. Double click on the new drive to open it. Then double click on Setup.exe

I do all my upgrades this way. You will have much less problems than going through Windows Update. Since you tried going through Windows Update first, I don't if that screwed thing up. You could try my method and see. If you decide to reinstall Windows, you don't need to install any updates. It will upgrade just fine without them. Make sure to install all your drivers though.

That did not happen *Sad I downloaded the Win 10 ISO from TechBench but all it wanted to do was to burn to a DVD - no other choices. And no Zip file.

Does this mean if I burned to a DVD and booted from that, then it was going to be clean install? Or would I get a choice?

    Thanks for any further help.

In order to perform a clean install, you have to boot from the installation media, either the DVD or a bootable USB Flash.

Go through the following links carefully:

You are trying to upgrade from Windows 7, right? If so, try to follow my directions in the post above. I will give you a little more detail. First download and install 7 Zip. If your Windows 7 is 32-bit then download the 32-bit version of 7 Zip. Do the same if it's 64-bit.

After 7 Zip is installed, create a new folder on the Desktop. Next place the Windows 10 ISO in the new folder you just created. Next right click on the Windows 10 ISO, a menu will come up, put your cursor on 7 Zip in the menu, the 7 Zip menu will come up, click on "Exract Here". 7 Zip will exract all the files in the ISO to the new folder on the Desktop. Once all the files are exracted, double click on Setup.exe to start the upgrade.

I hope that is more clear.

    Win 10 not completing install

Old desktop system. Have new build system (awaiting delivery 500gb SSD). Fortunately I bought at a very cheap price a new original Win 8 Pro version disc and will load that on new system and upgrade to Win 10 from that. Will leave old system at Win 7.

Thanks everyone for your advice (and I did learn much from it) and tech help.
