Win 10 OEM - Mainboard Change?

    Hi

I’ve just bought Win 10 Pro OEM from Amazon direct - and about to install on a PC I built for myself.

I’ve not heard of OEM before - and googled it to find it can only be used on the one specific machine.

That’s fine, but I am planning on changing the mainboard soon - will this then invalidate the OEM version, and I’ll be forced to buy it again?

(Using an older board until I can afford the upgrade)

    Thank you

    :)

  2. Activation of an OEM version after changing the mainboard.

On another forum (in Chinese), a member said that his OEM version of Windows 10 had been activated after the mainboard was changed. A screenshot of that was shown there. And he had not used this method: Use Activation Troubleshooter in Windows 10 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials .
Is it possible that Microsoft has unofficially loosened the restrictions on OEM versions?

  3. Win 8.1 full to Win 10 upgrade and changing hardware

I installed a full version of win 8.1 (not OEM) on my PC. After July 29 I have the chance to upgrade to win 10 for free. Do I get a FULL windows 10 verson with this upgrade or is this upgrade limited to the first used hardware constellation (especially mainboard)?
Or ... would it be possible to change e.g. the mainboard and still use windows 10?

    Thanks alot

  4. Win 10 OEM - Mainboard Change?

Activation of an OEM version after changing the mainboard.

Retail Channel means that install is classed as Retail, not OEM. IMHO, what it means is, if you have issues, contact Microsoft for tech support, not the OEM that originally sold you the PC. Microsoft does not offer tech support for OEM installs. The OEM manufacturer is solely responsible for giving you tech support for their modified custom install. By a Retail copy and Microsoft is your contact for tech support.

With the free upgrade, you could have an OEM PC with say Windows 7. Then you upgrade to Windows 10. But lets say that OEM never shipped that model with Windows 10, should they still be on the hook for tech support? I say no, and that's why it toggles from OEM to Retail. Just my theory as to why.
