Win 10 PC doesn't recognize change in mic/speaker connection

Hi. In order to reduce the number of times I plug/unplug from the single mic/speaker jack, I was trying to use a "Y" splitter cord. The idea was to switch between external speaker and boom mic headset by plugging/unplugging one or the other at the Y cord instead of the PC's jack.

However, this is not working; either the PC or the conference call apps are having a hard time recognizing that the hardware changed.

So, does the PC rely on sensing that it's jack has had a new device plugged in? Or can it sense that change downstream at the Y? Or is there some way to force it to recognize the change?

At this point, if I try to swap the hardware just before I get on a conference call, I end up needing to close the app, unplug everything, and try again.

I am intrigued by an aftermarket device I've found that offers an A/B switch for the TRRS jack. But I am concerned this will have the same difficulty recognizing the change.

    Thanks

    :)

Bluetooth speaker with mic - mic not working when connected on Win10

    Hi all,

We have bought a speaker for our office to use in conferences.

The bluetooth speaker has a microphone, and works fine (both mic and speaker) when connected to a smartphone.

The problem appears when we connect it to a laptop. Although it appears in the bluetooth settings menu with as a Headset with a headset icon, and when connected it shows: "Connected voice, music", the microphone
    of the speaker doesn't work.

In the Sound Settings, the speaker is selected both in Output and Input, but when testing, no sound is recorded, even though the speaker works (you can hear sound through it).

    • All bluetooth drivers have been reinstalled and are up to date

    • We have run the Troubleshoot unsuccessfully, getting the following response: “Troubleshooting couldn’t identify the problem”.

Under Device properties > Properties > Details > Device Description is listed as
    Bluetooth Hands-Free.

Is there anything else we can do at this point? This has been tested on 2 computers.

Is this an issue with Windows 10 and Bluetooth speakers with microphones?

    Many thanks for any help!

  3. Headset and Mic are recognized as speakers... I need them to work.

So my Headset works I have tested it multiple times but the problem is, that when I go into sound and disable speakers my headphones disable too.

My mic on the headset also doesn't work when I plug it in, it doesn't recognize it. It just automatically switches to the laptops built in mic, and I have tested 3 different mics and they all worked on my Xbox One controller, my Iphone, and my Nintendo switch.
Whenever I plug it in, once again, it's not its own standalone device it just recognizes, and bear with me, as the speakers... ANY HELP! PLEASE?!?

Built-in Mic for Lumia 950 doesn't work when connected to Soundlink Mini

The Bose Soundlink Mini is capable of answering phone calls so it obviously has a Mic.

The trouble is when I want to use the phone Voice recognition with Cortana or any other Windows Phone 10 app. The built in mic is not recognized which breaks a very common usage scenario

    • Use Bose Soundlink speaker to listen to music
    • Command Cortana to perform an action with your voice
I suspect that this issue can be duplicated on other Bluetooth devices that have a Mic.

The Soundlink does have mulit-function button which is supposed to activate Cortana but this doesn't work very well. I have called Bose to report the problem with their speaker unknown what they will do.

But this problem could also be solved if the OS was smarter in how it handled voice recognition when connected to a Bluetooth device.

    • When the phone's icon for the Mic is pressed use the built-in Mic
    • When the activation sequence on the Bluetooth device's is signaled (which in my case is the Soundlink multi-function button) to make or receive a call use the Bluetooth device.
    • Otherwise default to the built-in Mic such as if you make a call
