Win 10 Photo Editor turned grey

I'm editing jpeg photos, which I've done for years and it always worked just fine. Now all of a sudden when I double click a picture the editor opens and I can see the picture but the entire photo editor window and photo are overlaid with a transparent grey. The editor seems to be working, like I can crop a photo, but I can't adjust lighting, colors, clarity, contrast simply because I can't see the true colors of the picture. Rebooting didn't address the problem. Please advise, thanks.

    :)
