Windows 10: Win 10 Pro File Manager / Windows Preview / Search issues, when will they be fixed?

Just upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro -- have plenty of high speed RAM, high speed processor, high speed 1TB SSD boot, many T's of data storage, etc.


Basic problem: I have tens of thousands of photos, many many tens. I heavily depended on the 'old' File Manager "Search" feature and Windows Photo Viewer. Both Win 7 Pro tools worked perfectly, worked without issues.


Now I have two issues:

1. File Manager Search: takes a while, slower than on Win 7 Pro. And. If I want to change the sort order on the resulting list ... it Searches again. Annoying and time consuming.


2. Whether I am using MS Office Picture Manager or the 'old' Windows Photo Viewer ... the search results are completely totally and one hundred percent ignored. Both tools see only the raw file list, and those this is not hundred percent confirmed yet it appears they look at the results alphabetically; doesn't matter what your search is or your desired sort order.


I have no real idea how many photos jpg, png, pspimages, etc. are on the various 2TB plus drives; 100,000 plus at least probably low. I include key words in the file names so I can find them, ex: the raw list of photos from a wedding is 600 images, I search for a handful of them, using, say, the key word 'bride', and come back with 60. In the past I used Windows Photo Viewer to quickly scan through those 60, only; it was simple, effective, not complex, not overloaded with features I never used as I have Corel tools that allow me to do everything I want to pics. Now? I am stuck. There is NO tool in Win 10 Pro that replaces the 'old' WIndows Photo Viewer. There is NO third party app that simply replaces the 'old' WIndows Photo Viewer.


This is a production/performance problem. Please fix both '1.' and '2.' soonest as they are both bugs. Go back to what worked please.

File Explorer Search Not Working


I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

 

Preview pane doesn't work in Windows 10

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

1. Are you facing issue with all your files or any particular files?
   
2. Which version of Windows you are using?
   
3. Since when are you facing this issue?
   

The Preview pane shows the contents of certain files selected in File Explorer. For images, it is a thumbnail preview.

If you are unable to preview in File explorer, I suggest you to try the below steps.

1. Open a new File Explorer window and click the View tab from the ribbon toolbar.
   
2. Click Options, and then click Change folder and search options to open Folder Options dialog.
   
3. Check the Show preview handlers in preview pane box, and click/tap on OK.​
