Win 10 pro no longer recognizes external backup HD

Win 10 no longer recognizes the external 2TB Fantom Drive for backup.
    1. Uninstalled the drive using device manager. Cold booted.
    2. Plugged in the HD (external power and 3.0 USB connection)
    3. Does it's set up thing. Then there is a ! on the USB attached SCSI Mass storage device. It flashes briefly then the light goes out.
When doing a cold boot with the drive attached the light stays on thru the boot process, then goes out.
    4. Tried updating driver - says most recent drive is already installed.
Went to properties Code 38 error message previous instance of device driver still in memory.

The drive used to work on my win 10 pro for backup. Got disconnected, and the error was to effect disconnected too long. Since then the laptop no longer recognizes the HD. I did a complete format of the HD. It still wasn't recognized by my laptop.
This HD works beautifully doing backup for my husband's win 10 home machine. No problem @ all!

    I'm really frustrated!!!!
Thank you in advance for assistance

Update, the external HD is now being recognized suddenly it is working. I did a system diagnostic report. Shows all kinds of errors, but the back up is working.
See error report. i don't understand what it is telling me to do. A specific explanation of how to fix this would be appreciated.

  3. Can I resstore my Win XP files to Win 10 by using a Win XP Backup

I Used Win XP Pro's Backup Utility to do the backup to my external HD. Backup was completed successfully.

I am now trying to do a backup/restore to win 10 using its backup/restore software but it will not recognize my external HD. The external HD shows up in File Explorer, Disk Management, and Device Manager. In fact I have already done a backup of Win 10
    on this external HD.
