Windows 10: Win 10 Serial COM port fails Duplex operation

Following the update of my laptop, an FZ-55 from win 7 to win 10, I've had problems with threading and specifically the COM port threading. Our program used to be able to transmit while still being able to detect errors and a break sent by the receiver. This no longer functions as in the past. If the Serial COM port is in a transmit state, it seems unable to detect any received input. The serial port driver has been updated to reflect the FZ-55 it's an Intel 10 - 64 driver set as delivered by Panasonic for the laptop. It does generate the following output "cmd: pnputil /add-driver Windows10-x

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.


First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

Break command list: Break Commands

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".

Some of my findings on this issue.

I have found the same issues with some old computers with On-board / Integrated Serial Ports.

Even searching for the VEN/DEV databases is a hit or miss affair.

Some of my findings,.... lets say one finds the corresponding match but it wont install.

Most if not many times it seems that this relates to a much Newer Operating System being installed ( win 7/8.1/10 ) that no longer uses this and no longer supports it.

I could be wrong, ... but i believe these PCI Serial Ports pre-date the era of Vista going back to the old Serial Port Printers and Devices.

Not having it wont or should not affect ones computer unless one is trying to attach and run one of these older devices.

It may be more of a annoyance factor as it shows up with the Exclamation Mark beside it in the Device Manager.

As with one of my decade old systems all i could do was Disable it as any of the Drivers that i located would not work or even install on some Windows 7 OS`s or Win 10.

Any ideas are welcome as it is a issue that has caught me out at times as well.

Two of my older systems i have just Disabled the PCI Serial Port in Device Manager as they did not have a switch in the BIOS in relation to PCI Serial Port to be able to turn off / disable.

If you want to change the port settings, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Device manager (right click on start button
   and then on Device manager).
   
2. Then expand port (COMS & LPT).
   
3. Then right click on Prolific USB-to Serial Comm Port and then on properties.
   
4. Go to port settings and click on Advanced.
   
5. You will be able to make the changes on this screen.
