  1. Win 10 started dropping internet connection

This just started happening. My PC is connected to the router via network cable. I have the power option to the max and have the settings under the NIC to not allow PC to put to sleep. Not sure what else to do. When it happens I have tried to use ipconfig to release all connections and renew them but it states no adapters are in that state or something like that, but when I rum ipconfig it shows the NIC with the IPs so I assume its connected. I have tried disabling the NIC and reenable it but no go. Also I have a Wifi adapter as well but keep it disabled. I tried to connect via wifi when the w

  2. Internet connection keeps dropping, since Win 10 update and still no resolution....

    Drogon10,

My sincerest thanks, for that superbly important Microsoft link on the loosing your

    Network Connection.

I would have not found that link on my own, the past two months, even with all the research I have done on this issue.

I am not a new person to Windows, as I have been using it for around 23 years, but this was

one of the more baffling issues I have come across over the years.

    So again, sincerest thanks Drogon10!

Now for all of you who have this same issue with Win 10, listen up, please.......

I think I had tried everything I had come across to resolve the Internet Connection drop issue.

I had gone from forum to forum, reading Technical Website resolutions to Technical Blogs, and

still, none of them provided me with a resolution.

I was not going to revert back to Win 7, like it seemed many of disappointed users were doing, according

to what I was reading online.

I chose to keep Win 10 because I like it and I do not want to go back to (for this PC) a troubled OS.

I really just had too many issues with Win 7 and was tired of dealing with them for around 8 years.

But I think overall, Win 7 was a good OS for most.

So, with the fact I wanted to keep Win 10, I read and re-read this link Drogon10 suggested, I worked down the list and behold...

At this time, there is a resolution to the connection drop.

I seem to once again, have a solid internet connection.

    What worked for my PC:

I went down the list, as I said earlier, step by step and stopped @ "temporarily turning off my firewall and anti-virus

    software.

By the time I reached this suggestion, I noticed that webpages were loading and I was no longer coming up with error pages, from no internet connection.

I rebooted the PC and yes, it was holding the wireless connection.

I also noticed my PC's processor was not singing at close to it's top note. The processor is running

    normally, once again.

This was a side affect of the dropping connection for this PC.

I still do not understand where that comes into play with a connection issue.

Now I seriously doubted that the Win 10 Firewall and Microsoft Defender, which are the protector's I use on my

machines, were really at the core of this issue.

So with that in mind, I stopped short of turning them off temporarily.

By this time, was my realization that I had internet for much more then 2-5 minutes.

Unfortunately, my issue was not a simple fix like just going into the Windows Network & Sharing Center and

resetting the Network Adapter or running the Windows Network Diagnostics, for it to find the issue and fix.

My issue required more knowledge from someone, of proper network settings, which honestly, I am not super knowledgeable of.

I had already tried everything on that Microsoft link, up to the point of temporarily turning off my firewall & anti-virus programs, (but not including) "Running these Network Commands."

This was one area I had not seen any write-ups online, yet.

My resolution came after doing the "Running these Network Commands."

Something must have not been configured right from the beginning of upgrading to Win 10 from Win 7 Home.

Following the instructions must have reset/flushed it to the correct setting/configuration for my network connection to work correctly on this particular PC.

    So, my conclusion:

If you are experiencing this issue, do check this Microsoft link out:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10741/windows-10-fix-network-connection-issues

There are a number of steps in this Technical Sheet of such, that may very well get your connection back.

    Internet Connection Keeps Dropping

Hello, are you always connected to the same router - or are you skipping to others? Suggest disabling these settings:

Also check your channel is not congested, and signal strength is adequate. There are freeware tools which can show you this information.

You might have to change band (frequency) - and in one scenario where someone was renting a place it was suggested the owner was restricting Wifi bandwidth...!

I'm sure others more experienced in these issues will comment.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply. My answers are interleaved with your questions.

    • In which browser are you facing this issue e.g. Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer?
    Multiple browsers: Chrome, Explorer, Firefox

    • Do you get any error message?
      • In Chrome, I get "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE" as the error message
    • Have you installed all pending Windows updates?
      • Yes. It is continuously getting updated.
    • Do you face connection fluctuation in Ethernet connection?
      • No. The internet connection is a solid 40Mb downlink. The same problem occurs when I'm hooked to a different internet service provider.
    • Is the issue specific to any particular website?
      • No, it occurs when I'm accessing multiple web sites. It is not related to any web site.

I suggest you to try connecting to Ethernet connection and check if face same issue.

The problem occurs when I'm using wired ethernet, an internal wifi card, or an external wifi usb dongle.

Also install all pending Windows updates I.

I just checked it . It is up to date.

Further you can refer the link below and follow the troubleshooting steps suggested.

I'm not going to spend time on these other steps, since as I mentioned it occurs on multiple browsers, and it is not tied to Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, unless you give me a good reason to do so.

    Thank you.
